This is a unionized position offering full union wages, with pension and benefits provided in addition to the posted hourly rate.
The Hydrovac Operator is responsible for the safe operation of hydrovac equipment to expose underground utilities, perform excavation work, and support utility construction projects while maintaining the highest standards of safety and efficiency.
Duties
- Conduct daily pre-trip inspections, equipment checks, and complete all required safety documentation.
- Safely operate hydrovac trucks and associated equipment in accordance with company policies and applicable regulations.
- Drive hydrovac trucks to and from project sites while maintaining a clean driving record and complying with all traffic laws.
- Perform daylighting, potholing, trenching, debris removal, and non-destructive excavation around existing underground utilities.
- Set up and maintain safe work zones, including traffic control and site protection measures as required.
- Inspect excavation areas for utility conflicts and ensure work is completed without damaging existing infrastructure.
- Coordinate with supervisors, locators, drill crews, and clients to complete work safely and efficiently.
- Complete daily equipment inspections, maintenance checks, and report mechanical issues promptly.
- Load, secure, transport, and dispose of excavation debris in accordance with environmental and company requirements.
- Maintain accurate daily logs, inspection reports, and required documentation.
- Follow all company policies, safety standards, and site-specific regulations.
- Assist with general labour and utility construction tasks as required.
- Perform additional duties as assigned to support operational and project objectives.

Qualifications
- Valid AZ or DZ Driver's Licence with a clean driving abstract (required).
- Previous experience operating hydrovac equipment is required.
- Experience working around underground utility infrastructure is considered an asset.
- Knowledge of Ontario One Call locate requirements and safe excavation practices is considered an asset.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs (23 kg) on a regular basis.
- Comfortable working outdoors in all weather and site conditions.
- Strong work ethic, reliability, and attention to detail.
- Ability to work flexible hours and travel to various project locations as required.
Pay: $38.00-$41.00 per hour
