About the role:
A Painter would be responsible for preparing, finishing, and maintaining interior and exterior surfaces in residential and commercial settings. This role involves executing a wide range of tasks including surface preparation, paint application, wallpaper installation, and minor repairs using a variety of tools and techniques. The Painter will collaborate with clients, suppliers, and other trades to ensure high-quality outcomes while adhering to project timelines and budgets. This position plays a critical role in enhancing the appearance, durability, and safety of facilities through expert craftsmanship and consistent attention to detail.
Responsibilities
- Paint interior and exterior surfaces of residential or commercial buildings using varnishes, lacquers, sealers, or stains.
- Execute pre-painting activities, including cleaning, scraping, sanding patching, caulking, and masking of adjacent surfaces prior to painting, papering, texturing, applying filler, etc. if required.
- Blend paints and other materials to achieve the right color or texture and then paint surfaces with various tools and according to instructions.
- Cover and protect furniture, fixtures, and other surfaces to prevent damage or paint splatter prior to beginning painting work.
- Apply all types of wallpaper, drywall installation tape and texture work.
- Cover fixtures and fill cracks and holes with appropriate material such as plaster.
- Give an extra touch to work done using power and hand tools to sand surfaces for further finishing and painting.
- Take before and after pictures, and detailed notes on each work order.
- Take measurements and calculate the size and amount of material needed.
- Coordinate with suppliers to procure and manage painting materials and equipment required for projects.
- Liaising with clients to discuss project details, budgets, and timelines, and provide accurate cost estimates and quotes.
- Ensure proper storage of leftover paint in designated areas in accordance with safety and inventory protocols.
- Maintain and clean painting equipment to ensure operational efficiency and compliance with safety standards.
- Perform regular maintenance and safety inspections on painting system.
- Coordinate with other trades, such as electricians, gas fitters, plumbers, groundskeepers, carpenters, and cleaners.
- Stay up to date with storage and disposal laws, regulations, codes, etc. and comply with OSHA/MSDS guidelines with respect to the use of hazardous chemicals.
- Maintain cleanliness and order in east and west garages and promptly report any safety hazards or operational deficiencies in compliance with OHS standards.
Candidates Requirements:
- Ability to operate tools including drills, paint sprays, texture sprayers, and sanders.
- Comprehensive knowledge of building regulations and codes and safety standards.
- Strong understanding of painting procedures, tools, and safety protocols.
- Problem-solving in identifying painting issues and providing solutions to resolve such issues.
- To be on call on a routine basis (after 4 PM, weekends, and statutory holidays).
- Maintain inventory and report deficiencies
- Strong teamwork spirit.
- Provide excellent customer service and communicate effectively with owners, tenants, clients and team members.
- Willingness to learn and adapt efficiently and effectively.
Work conditions and physical capabilities
- Wear personal protective equipment (PPE) all the time at work.
- Able to distinguish between colors.
- Ability to tolerate exposure to strong Odors commonly associated with paints, thinners, and other related substances.
- Able to withstand hours of work while standing, crouching or taking other rigorous positions, including working at heights.
- Ability to carry larger items.
- Willing to work flexible and extended hours as required by project demands.
- Work in confined spaces.
- Position requires working in residences where occupants may be present.
