We are seeking a skilled Biologist/Biologist in Training to assist our Biology and Environment team with vegetation wetlands and wildlife scopes while also supervising reclamation, remediation, and Phase 2 Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs). This role is ideal for adaptable individuals who love working outdoors and who will thrive in a fast-paced consulting environment. This individual will be willing to contribute to both field and in office reporting and project coordination/management duties. Our successful candidate will have a solid foundation in biological sciences and a willingness to work in land reclamation while continuing to grow their biological skill sets.

JOB DUTIES:
- Conduct biological surveys and monitoring procedures, including bird/wildlife sweeps and surveys, sensitive species surveys, remote camera monitoring and wildlife salvage and relocation activities.
- Conduct vegetation assessments, such as vegetation health and weed surveys, detailed site assessments, peatland pad-in-place assessments, ecosite classifications, rare plant searches and wetlands assessments.
- Oversee reclamation and remediation projects, including site evaluations, soil and groundwater sampling.
- Execute Phase 2 Environmental Site Assessments, preparing detailed reports and recommendations based on findings.
- Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and best practices.
- Liaise with clients, regulatory bodies, and landowners to communicate project progress and address environmental concerns as required.
- Develop and implement monitoring programs to assess the effectiveness of reclamation and remediation efforts.
- Utilize ArcGIS or similar GIS software for data analysis and geographic mapping of wetlands.
- Manage projects according to approved scopes of work, ensuring timely delivery of high-quality reports and documentation.
- Contribute to a collaborative work environment, supporting team members and promoting a culture of environmental stewardship.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- At least 3 years of terrestrial biology experience, including vegetation, wetlands or wildlife. Aquatics and/or fisheries experience will be considered an asset.
- Experience inland reclamation and the well-site closure process. Preference will be given to people with reclamation, remediation, and/or Phase 2 experience.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate with rural landowners and other stakeholders.
- Working knowledge of the Alberta Wetland Policy
- Familiarity with Alberta environmental regulatory criteria and guidelines.
- Project Management experience in upstream oil and gas projects will be an asset.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills and commitment to data quality.
- Ability to work independently or collaboratively in a team.
- Post-secondary degree in biological sciences or a related discipline.
- Availability to travel for remote work for extended periods of time (field roles)
- Valid Alberta Class 5 driver’s license
- Eligibility to qualify as a P. Biol. with the Alberta Society of Professional Biologists (ASPB). Biologists-in-Training may also be considered.
