SkyAlyne is a proud partnership between Canadian aviation and defence leaders, CAE and KF Aerospace, formed to provide a truly Canadian solution for Canada’s Future Aircrew Training (FAcT) Program, Canada’s next-generation military aircrew training program.
SkyAlyne has been selected as contractor for the FAcT Program, a 25-year program valued at approximately $10 billion. The program will be managed from the National Capital Region (Ottawa), with three operational locations: Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan; Southport (Portage la Prairie), Manitoba; and Winnipeg, Manitoba.
The scope of the FAcT Program contract includes all training and in-service support requirements needed to prepare Pilots, Air Combat Systems Officers, and Airborne Electronic Sensor Operators to meet the future aerospace requirements of the Royal Canadian Air Force. In collaboration with the Government of Canada and several major Canadian subcontractors, SkyAlyne will provide live-flying, simulator and classroom-based training, facilities construction and management, information management and information technology support, site support services, aircraft maintenance and much more.

Job Overview
SkyAlyne is a dynamic and innovative company specializing in cutting-edge aviation training solutions. As a Principal Architect, you’ll play a pivotal role in shaping our technological landscape and driving architectural excellence for the FAcT Program and for SkyAlyne as a business. The Principal Architect will report directly to the Head of IM/IT.
Duties and Responsibilities

Architectural Leadership:

Lead and manage a team of skilled architects, fostering collaboration, knowledge sharing, and innovation.

Lead analysis of enterprise capabilities, connecting corporate strategy to execution.

Define and communicate the architectural vision, strategy, and roadmap for SkyAlyne’s systems and applications to support Enterprise services and FAcT program.

Lead development of the practice of enterprise architecture, advocating for innovation and upholding the company guiding principles.

Develop and maintain the overall system architecture, ensuring scalability, performance, reliability, and security.

Technical Expertise:

Identify and assess the impact of important technology trends on the company.

Assess and recommend technologies, tools, and frameworks that align with program goals and enhance our solutions.

Provide hands-on technical guidance to architects and sub-contracted development teams.

Drive architectural decisions related to infrastructure, cloud services, applications, cybersecurity, and data management.

Collaboration and Stakeholder Management:

Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including subcontractors, operations, and business stakeholders.

Work closely with the Head of IM/IT to align architectural initiatives with organizational objectives.

Present signature-ready architectural options and recommendations to executive leadership.

Solution Design and Documentation:

Design robust, scalable, and maintainable solutions that meet business requirements.

Create architectural diagrams, documentation, and guidelines for development and delivery teams.

Ensure adherence to best practices, standards, and cybersecurity framework.

Risk Mitigation and Quality Assurance:

Identify and mitigate technical risks related to system performance, data integrity, compliance, security vulnerabilities, and scalability challenges.

Conduct code reviews and architectural assessments.

Champion quality assurance processes and continuous improvement.
Qualifications and Experience
-
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.

Proven experience (at least 10 years) as a principal or enterprise architect, with a focus on business and infrastructure services.

Strong knowledge of cyber security, AWS, or Azure cloud computing, microservices, and modern software development practices.

Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Certification in relevant architectural and service frameworks (e.g., TOGAF, SAFe, ITIL) is a plus.

Familiarity with defence or aviation industry standards is a plus.

Be able to hold a Government of Canada Security Clearance (Secret level).
-
Be able to hold Government of Canada site/information access certifications, including accessing Protected “B” information, Controlled Goods Clearance, and ITAR Clearance.

Eligible to work in Canada.

Strong oral and written English language capabilities.

Fluency in French would be an asset.
