This role is located in London, Ontario and may require occasional travel to Winnipeg and/or Toronto. Reporting to the Director, Accounting Lead IFRS 17, the Accounting Specialist will assist with the implementation of technology, operations and process planning relating to accounting matters under the new insurance contracts standard, IFRS 17. The Specialist will play a key role in the implementation of an Insurance Contracts subledger and financial reporting database addressing IFRS 17 and other reporting and analytical requirements for the Canadian Division. This position plays a critical role in transformation of the results and analysis to an IFRS 17 basis for the Canadian Division. This opportunity is perfect for a driven and effective individual to gain exposure and understanding regarding required IFRS 17 changes and impact our Organization on a national level.
Reconcile general ledger accounts, subledger accounts and other data sets as required for the implementation of the IFRS 17 technology architecture Analyze, investigate and resolve complex accounting issues in collaboration with the Subject Matter Expert IFRS17 and Senior Financial Reporting Analyst
Execution of testing plans and procedures
Preparation of conversion testing results
Understand and articulate the impact of testing outages
Attend regular meetings with other team members to resolve outstanding items
Ad-hoc financial requests to support the implementations
Provide supporting documentation as required to internal and external auditors
Back up coverage of other roles on the team
Qualifications and Competencies:
Strong understanding of accounting
Accounting Certificate and/or relevant accounting experience is required
Working towards accounting designation (CPA) is an asset
Solid knowledge of accounting systems (SAP)
Strong knowledge of Excel is an asset
Strong analytical and problem solving skills
Self starter, team-oriented, and able to work with limited direction
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Knowledge of Individual Customer business and systems; CL, LL, GWL, is an asset
