Salary Information: The salary range, based on 1.0 FTE, is CAD $62,850.00 - 98,205.00 per annum (Specialist Professional/Phase 2). The starting salary will be commensurate with education and experience.

Primary Purpose: The Experiential Learning Facilitator, as a member of the Experiential Learning (EL) team, will assist with the organization of quality service learning and practice experiences in hospital, community, and related settings, for students in the Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) program. The focus of this position is the Year 2 Pharm D hospital immersions and summer placements with long term goal of facilitating placements for Year 4. It is essential for the success of this position that the incumbent hold positions both with the College and the Saskatchewan Health Authority in some capacity.

Graduates must develop the appropriate knowledge, skills and attitudes required by the National Association of Pharmacy Regulatory Authorities (NAPRA) National Competencies at Entry-to-practice through Structured Practical Training and the Association of Faculties of Pharmacy of Canada (AFPC) Educational Outcomes for pharmacy graduates. In addition, the incumbent will periodically undertake project work and other duties as assigned where necessary to assist in the delivery of the pharmacy curriculum.

Nature of Work: Reporting to the Associate Dean Academic and the Director of Experiential Learning, and working collaboratively as a member of the Pharmacy EL team, the Coordinator works with a high level of independence and accountability, and must build strong relationships with preceptors, students, faculty and staff. This position will be primarily situated within Saskatoon.

Accountabilities:
Assist with the implementation and execution of Pharm 288.2 Experiential learning II (hospital immersions which occur in Term 1 and Term 2, Year 2 of the Pharm D program) This will require working with staff within the Saskatchewan Health Authority
Assist with development, implementation and execution of Phar 283.4 (Hospital pharmacy practice experience spring/summer). This will require working with staff within the Saskatchewan Health Authority
Precept, mentor, teach, and guide students in hospital practice for Experiential Learning courses within the curriculum. Provide feedback to students, and assess and evaluate knowledge and skills. Facilitate remediation as necessary
Provide orientation to students prior to attending experiential learning sites, especially hospital, so they can feel comfortable and knowledgeable about the upcoming experience and maximize the opportunities presented them
Maintain and revise as needed, under advice of EL director, the experiential learning syllabi, manuals, assessment tools and related documents
Maintain appropriate communication and ensure collegial relationships are sustained
Work collaboratively and in coordination with the facilitator counterpart in Saskatoon Facilitate preceptor development and training as needed
Ensure students are in compliance with site and rotation requirements
Confirm and ensure timely submission of all assessment documents (i.e. preceptor evaluation of students)
Build and maintain relationships with colleagues in other health science colleges and practice sites to further inter-professional learning initiatives
Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of accreditation processes and APFC and NAPRA competencies
Utilize experiential learning database software system (e.g. CORE ELMS, COMP MS or equivalent)
Qualifications

Education: Applicants are required to hold a first professional degree in Pharmacy and be licensed as a pharmacist in Canada. Additional education in pharmacy and/or adult education are desirable. A graduate degree (e.g., PharmD, Master’s degree) and previous formal teaching experience are considered assets.

Experience: Recent (within 2 years) experience /employment within the Saskatoon Health Region or equivalent and a minimum of two years of experience in pharmacy practice; previous supervision and evaluation of students are considered assets. Preference will be given to applicants who are current employees of the Saskatchewan Health Authority.

Skills: Demonstrated understanding of contemporary pharmacy hospital practice and experiential education; ability to work independently and as part of a team; excellent interpersonal and communication skills; effective time management and organizational skills; ability to teach and mentor students both one on one and in group situations; ability to provide feedback and assessment to students in experiential learning situations, initiative and creativity; and computer literacy, including familiarity with software applications used in curriculum planning, assessment and evaluation in professional degree programs.
