Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Maintenance Person to join our team. This is a part-time (10 hours per week position). The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of our facilities through effective maintenance practices. This role requires a strong background in mechanical and electrical systems, as well as the ability to lead and supervise maintenance activities. The Maintenance Person will play a vital role in maintaining equipment, troubleshooting issues, and ensuring compliance with safety standards.
Duties
- Maintain in good order and repair all Co-op tools and equipment
- Carry out minor repairs requested in work orders
- Complete minor plumbing repairs in units
- Advise Management when there is need of specialized trade’s people
- Work with management to prepare work schedules
- Move appliances and other equipment as the management requires
- Assist with unit inspections (move in, move outs and annual)
- Carry out preventative and routine maintenance according to the schedules and work orders on fire alarm systems, electrical systems, mechanical system, garbage compactor, sump pumps, generators, drains, doors, locks and general care of the building
- Replace light bulbs in the Interior and Exterior lights
- Work with Management to maintain a supply of care-taking and grounds-keeping supplies
- Receive shipments of care-taking and grounds keeping supplies
- Checking receiving slips and stock items received – forward slips to the office
- Assist cleaners to remove items from vacant unit if necessary
- Understand On-Call, Fire Plan and Emergency Routines
- Follow the Emergency Procedure when emergencies happen
- Perform other tasks with fall within the framework of this job description (example: Install speed bumps)
- Train Board Members and Volunteers of Emergency On-Call Procedures
- Supervise superintendent placement students from Durham College
- Connect and supervise additional onsite contractors, when needed
- Sign and Agree to follow the Co-op’s Confidentiality Agreement and Ethical Code of Conduct Agreement
A successful candidate will have:
- Proven experience in a residential maintenance.
- Strong knowledge of general maintenance with hands-on experience (minor plumbing, electrical, carpentry, drywall repair etc.)
- Familiarity with electrical systems and troubleshooting techniques.
- Supervising experience.
- Ability to communicate professionally, respectfully and effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
- Working knowledge to WHMIS and Health and Safety standards
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $22.00-$25.00 per hour
Expected hours: 15.0 per week
