Position summary:
Reports to Director, Human Resources, the incumbent provides supports in functional areas of the Human Resources department: labour relations, employee relations, staffing, health and safety, training and development, compensation and benefits, and performance management. The incumbent assists in development and implementation of all Human Resources and Labour Relations initiatives, policies and programs, and provide supports in managing overall operation of Human Resources department.
Main Responsibilities:
- Assist Director, Human Resources with a variety of issues and ad-hoc projects.
- Oversee HR Operation in absence of Director, Human Resources.
- Provide advices, coaching and guidance to supervisors on all HR related issues.
- Recommend changes and process updates for HR policy and procedures.
- Support the performance evaluation, staffing, training and development, and succession planning processes.
- Participate in recruitment and selection, promotions, transfers, contract negotiation, performance evaluation, and employee relations according to policies and principals.
- Develop and implement training initiatives aligned with HR and organization goals.
- Monitor, review and improve internal HR systems and processes.
- Complete regular HR data audits to ensure data accuracy.
- Preparation of HR reports related to but not limited to: staffing, turnover, and provide action items to address gaps and issues.
- Conduct investigations; maintain records; deal with grievances, violations and invoking disciplinary action when required.
- Provide support and recommendation to enhance new hire orientation/onboarding experience.
- Supervise early and safe return to work program and WSIB claims.
- Recommend and implement improvement to the Health and Safety programs.
- Recommend strategies to motivate employees.
- Ensure compliance with all legislative requirements (federal and provincial).
- Research any new developments within the Human Resource field and implement changes where needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- University degree or college diploma in Human Resources Management or post graduate program in Human Resources Management.
- CHRP designation required. CHRL designation a strong asset
- Minimum 3 years related experience in a Human Resources Generalist role.
- Experience working in Non-For-Profit organizations an asset
- Experience in unionized work environment preferred.
- Strong knowledge of effective human resources management, including labour relations, employee relations, staffing, compensation, health and safety, and performance management.
- High level of accuracy and strong attention to detail;
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to develop and maintain trusting working relationship with stakeholders.
- Ability and willingness to contribute effectively in a team environment;
- Ability to deal with HR issues with a high level of discretion and confidentiality;
- Ability and flexibility to thrive in a high stress environment, with frequent and competing deadlines, multiple tasks and high performance expectations.
- Proficiency in Chinese and English, both orally and in writing.
- Valid driver’s license with access to vehicle.
