We are recruiting a Mentor and Community Connector for a regular assignment of 28 hours per week, with a salary range between $22 and $25 per hour (depending on experience) to support our adult family member who has a developmental challenge, to be meaningfully engaged in the community. We need your help to ensure that our family member develops healthy relationships and is continually finding ways to expand his world, meeting new people, learning new things, and excelling in his employment.
Duties:
Support our family member to:
- Explore opportunities in the community, including learning opportunities in areas of his interest (arts, social, technical clubs and courses), developing his interests in places where healthy relationships and friendships may grow.
- Maintain a sustainable relationship with his current employer, providing needed supports.
- Develop his skills supporting independence and healthy living, including household management, healthy financial practices, meal planning, grocery shopping and exercise.
- Develop his skills in Literacy, Numeracy, and Technology to further his independence
- Support his transition to live in a stable, supported independent living arrangement.
Provide transportation when needed and support the use of public transit, including learning new routes.
Communicate any issues promptly, work collaboratively with the FMS Administrator, family members and other key stakeholders.
Qualifications:
- Strong understanding of and commitment to inclusion.
- Strong communications skills and comfort in a mentorship and instructional role; life-coaching skills are an asset, as is an interest in fitness, swimming, mechanical hobbies and music (as these are interests of the family member).
- Experience with job development and job coaching.
- Existing knowledge of social and recreation opportunities in Edmonton is an asset.
- A valid Class 5 driver’s license; access to a reliable vehicle and applicable insurance.
- 3-year driver’s abstract obtained within previous 6 months.
- Police check with vulnerable sectors completed within previous 6 months.
- Standard First Aid certified.
