The Opportunity
We are looking for a motivated Laboratory Technician for a one-year contract with an opportunity to become a full-time employee. This is an excellent entry-level opportunity for a science graduate who is detail-oriented, dependable, and eager to learn. Working under the guidance of senior staff in an accredited, fast-paced laboratory, you will support a variety of routine analyses and laboratory operations while building hands-on experience with advanced instrumentation and methods.
Responsibilities
Duties may include the following:
- Perform routine extraction and analysis of simple samples, and prepare samples for analysis using appropriate techniques and equipment following Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Prepare analytical standards, reagents, and coated media.
- Accurately record test results, observations, and calculations, and review analytical data for completeness and accuracy.
- Ensure proper sample integrity and maintain chain-of-custody records where required.
- Assist with media management duties, including flow checks, calibrations, cleaning, packing, organizing media, and inventory.
- Calibrate, maintain, and measure laboratory equipment; check and document maintenance activities.
- Report equipment malfunctions and coordinate repairs when necessary.
- Safely dispose of old samples and arrange for sample waste collection.
- Maintain clean working conditions and clear organization in the laboratory.
- Prepare laboratory reports and maintain laboratory records in compliance with quality requirements.
- Perform laboratory duties following strict health and safety protocols, and also Good Laboratory Practices (GLP).
- Perform other duties as required.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Science (Chemistry preferred), with some experience in a laboratory setting.
- A dependable and ethical individual with a strong sense of responsibility.
- Well-organized and meticulous, with sharp attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy.
- Excellent English-language proficiency (written and oral), with effective interpersonal and communication skills.
- Strict adherence to health and safety protocols.
- Punctual, with reliable transportation.
- Legally entitled to work in Canada.

Working Conditions
- Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., onsite, with occasional overtime as required.
