SUMMARY

The role of the Vehicle Fire Suppression Technician is to provide the highest level of quality service, repair and maintenance of Vehicle Fire Suppression Systems, portable fire equipment, and shop work as required. Responsibilities will also include the installation, repair and maintenance on all VFSS (A101 & Kidde) systems within in the region. This position will be based out of the Sudbury location but will also involve remote service at additional customer locations including underground mine sites for extended periods of time. This position requires that you must be able to work independently with minimal supervision. The ideal candidate will have previous Industry experience but we are willing to train the right candidate.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide customer service as a service technician to all existing and new customers promptly and efficiently
  • Inspection, Maintenance and service of Fire Extinguishers & Fire & Life Safety Services Equipment including Stored Pressure & Cartridge Operated Fire Extinguishers (Portable & Wheeled) as required.
  • Provide in shop and mobile service work on customer sites.
  • Hydro testing of Fire Extinguishers.
  • VFSS Scheduled maintenance, inspection, repairs & installs (A101 & Kidde)
  • Working with the locally assigned service coordinator to Schedule service work and maintain the ordering of parts.
  • Maintain service vehicle inventory and all required tools
  • Complete all applicable H&S Paperwork associated with company policies and ISO procedures and COR
  • Accurate and timely completion of service paperwork to facilitate prompt billing, certification(s) of equipment, expenses & other required paperwork.
  • Ensure all required manufacture certifications are up to date and current
  • Be an ongoing contributor to the development of JHA’s (Job Hazard Assessments) and Safe Work Practices relevant to the position
  • Perform after hours and on call duties as required.
  • Other Duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS

  • Post-secondary training in a mechanical related field, or equivalent experience
  • Mechanical Aptitude with Basic Electrical Knowledge
  • A background in a service shop type environment is ideal
  • Good oral/written communications/Good computer skills
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Must be able to work out of town as required for extended and overnight stays
  • Valid driver’s license with clean drivers abstract
  • Must successfully pass pre-employment Drug and Alcohol testing
Physical requirements include:
  • Working in restricted work spaces and from ladders and walkways on large equipment and working on equipment in underground mines as required.
  • Good hand/eye coordination & manual dexterity
  • Prolonged sitting in vehicles, and driving times.
  • Lift and carry up to 50lbs unassisted.
  • Extensive walking will be required at times, in addition to working in areas of extreme heat and cold.
  • The incumbent will regularly work in dusty, dirty environments as well as hot and cold temperatures.
  • There will also be excessive noise from heavy machinery on some sites.
