Battery Simulation Engineer
We are seeking a highly motivated Battery Simulation Engineer to develop, validate, and optimize electrical and thermal models of lithium-ion battery cells, modules, and battery packs. In this role, you will support the design and development of high-performance, safe, and reliable battery systems through advanced simulation, testing, and model validation.
You will collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams to improve battery performance, thermal management, safety, and durability for next-generation electrification products.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement physics-based and equivalent-circuit models for lithium-ion battery cells, modules, and packs.
- Perform 0D/1D battery simulations to evaluate electrical, thermal, and degradation behavior under various operating conditions.
- Analyze laboratory test data (HPPC, drive cycles, thermal tests, aging tests) to extract model parameters and validate simulation accuracy.
- Conduct sensitivity analyses, parameter estimation, and optimization studies to improve model robustness and support engineering decisions.
- Simulate battery performance during fast charging, thermal events, aging, and extreme environmental conditions.
- Collaborate with battery design, testing, controls, and systems engineering teams to define modeling requirements and optimize battery performance.
- Support battery system development by evaluating high-voltage architectures, pre-charge circuits, contactor behavior, and Battery Disconnect Unit (BDU) functionality.
- Prepare technical reports, validation documentation, and engineering presentations to communicate simulation methodologies and results.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of battery modeling tools, workflows, and simulation methodologies.
Required Qualifications
- Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Applied Physics, or a related discipline.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in battery or engineering simulation.
- Experience with battery modeling tools such as MATLAB/Simulink, GT-SUITE, Amesim, or equivalent simulation software.
- Strong understanding of lithium-ion battery fundamentals, including electrical performance, thermal behavior, and aging mechanisms.
- Knowledge of high-voltage battery systems, including busbars, contactors, pre-charge circuits, and Battery Disconnect Units (BDUs).
- Experience analyzing experimental data and validating simulation models.
- Familiarity with optimization techniques such as Design of Experiments (DOE), parameter estimation, and model calibration.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related field with a focus on battery systems or electrochemistry.
- Experience with battery testing, HPPC characterization, aging studies, and performance validation.
- Knowledge of 0D, 1D, and 3D battery simulation methodologies.
- Experience developing Battery Management System (BMS) algorithms, including SOC, SOH, and SOP estimation using Kalman filters or other estimation techniques.
- Programming experience with MATLAB, Simulink, Python, or C/C++.
- Understanding of battery thermal management systems and electro-thermal modeling.

Location & Work Arrangement
- Hybrid work is preferred for candidates based near Windsor Canada office.
- Remote candidates within Ontario will also be considered.
- Ability and willingness to travel occasionally to Michigan (MI), USA is preferred to attend team meetings, technical workshops, and other collaborative events as required.
Pay: $42.00-$44.50 per hour
