Nursing Education Program Consultant
At the CRNA, we are committed to regulatory excellence and safeguarding the public interest. We are seeking a Nursing Education Program Consultant to provide expert review, evaluation, and advisory services to nursing education programs seeking initial approval, continued approval, or withdrawal of approval. Reporting to the Director, NEPA, Regulatory Committees & Hearings, this role is the primary point of contact for post-secondary institutions on program compliance matters.
The Consultant assesses program submissions against CRNA's approval standards, identifies gaps and deficiencies, and provides recommendations that support sound, evidence-based approval decisions. Through this work, the Consultant contributes to CRNA's mandate to protect the public by supporting the approval of nursing education programs that produce competent, safe registered nurses and nurse practitioners.
What You Will Do
Program Review and Compliance Assessment
- Review nursing education program submissions for initial approval, ongoing compliance, and reapproval, including curriculum, course outlines, policies, faculty qualifications, and student outcome data.
- Assess program alignment with CRNA's approval standards, entry-level competencies, and quality indicators.
- Conduct gap analyses, identify deficiencies and compliance risks, and prepare written recommendations for corrective action.
- Monitor trends in licensure results, completion rates, retention, clinical learning resources, and faculty sufficiency to identify emerging compliance concerns.
Partner Engagement and Advisory Support
- Serve as the primary contact for post-secondary institutions on program approval requirements, compliance matters, and regulatory guidance.
- Advise program directors, deans, and faculty on initial approval, reapproval, and ongoing compliance requirements.
- Support institutions in developing action plans to address identified deficiencies and meet approval requirements within established timelines.
- Build and maintain productive working relationships with institutional partners while maintaining objectivity and standards-based judgment.
Program Monitoring
- Plan, coordinate, and conduct site visits and program reviews, documenting observations, findings, and recommended actions.
- Prepare site visit reports, status reports, and follow-up correspondence for programs under active monitoring or conditions.
- Track program progress against corrective action plans and approval conditions and flag ongoing concerns to leadership.
Regulatory Standards and Reporting
- Contribute to the development and review of program approval policies, procedures, and operational guidelines.
- Prepare decision documents, policy analysis, and briefing materials for the Director and CRNA Council as required.
- Maintain accurate, audit-ready records for all assigned program approval, monitoring, and compliance activities.
What You Possess
Education:
Master's degree in Nursing, Adult Education, Healthcare Administration, or a related field.
Experience:
Minimum 7 years of progressive experience in experience in nursing education, academic leadership, regulatory compliance, program approval, accreditation, or curriculum oversight.
Professional Membership:
Registered Nurse in good standing with a Canadian nursing regulatory authority.
Skills & Competencies:
- Program Evaluation: Strong working knowledge of nursing education approval processes, regulatory standards, entry-level competencies, and program evaluation methods.
- Judgment and Analysis: Ability to assess complex or incomplete submissions, identify compliance gaps where standards require interpretation, and determine what additional evidence is needed.
- Regulatory Interpretation: Ability to interpret changes to legislation and regulatory requirements and translate them into practical direction for institutions.
- Partner Engagement: Ability to build and maintain productive working relationships with post-secondary institutions, faculty, and program leaders while maintaining objectivity.
- Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills for reports, decision documents, briefing materials, and correspondence with varied audiences.
- Risk Identification: Ability to monitor trends and flag compliance risks or patterns requiring regulatory attention before they escalate.
- Organization and Independence: Ability to manage multiple files, timelines, and site visits independently, with minimal direct supervision.
- Collaboration: Ability to work across internal teams, including Regulatory Initiatives, Governance, Registration, and Legal, on cross-functional matters.
- Attention to Detail: Ability to maintain accurate, audit-ready documentation and records across all assigned files.
