The Mike Murphy Law Group is an Atlantic Canadian litigation firm with a growing criminal defence practice. We’re hiring a junior to mid-level Criminal Defence Lawyer for our Halifax office to take carriage of a varied criminal caseload across the province.
This role is well suited to a lawyer in the early stages of their criminal defence career.
What you’ll do
- Carry criminal files from intake through resolution or trial
- Appear in Provincial and Supreme Court on summary and indictable matters
- Conduct bail hearings, Crown negotiations, and disclosure review
- Handle files across Nova Scotia, not solely in the Halifax area
What we’re looking for
- 0–5 years of post-call experience in criminal defence
- Membership in good standing with the Nova Scotia Barristers’ Society (or eligibility for admission)
- Moderate to high tech skills — we are a very tech-forward firm and comfort with new technology is essential
- Able to drive, with access to a vehicle for travel within the province

- Base salary of $80,000–$90,000, commensurate with experience
