LABOURER II – PUBLIC WORKS
We are currently recruiting for self-motivated, responsible team players to work for the Engineering &
Public Works Department in the Labourer II job classification.
Successful candidates will perform a variety of skilled tasks and diversified manual work entailing physical
effort and agility including construction and maintenance of roads, pavements, sewers, waterworks, street
cleaning and sanitation functions and related fixtures/accessories. The duties may involve difficult working
conditions and specialized skills.
Labourers are required to have considerable knowledge of the methods, techniques, materials, tools and
equipment used in public works construction and maintenance work and knowledge of municipal
infrastructure. You must possess:
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Work well independently as well as in a team setting
- A clean, valid BC driver’s licence (Class 5, Class 3 with air brake endorsement is desirable)
- Skill in the operation of a variety of power and hand tools used in the work
- Ability to operate other related equipment.
You must enjoy working outdoors and have sufficient physical strength, stamina and coordination required
to perform heavy manual labour in all types of weather. Preferred candidates will have relevant work
experience involving civil or general labour and public works courses.
The hourly rate is $30.10 plus a comprehensive benefit package upon successful completion of a
probation period. The shifts are four days per week, 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
