The Calgary TELUS Convention Centre is looking to hire a full-time Lead Hand in our Housekeeping Services Department.
Reporting to the Manager, Event Services and Housekeeping Services, this position is responsible for supporting the Manager and providing housekeeping/janitorial services to the Centre, Glenbow Museum, +15 areas, LRT platform easement, and 1st Street, 8th Avenue, and 9th Avenue areas adjacent to the Centre.
- Leads with hands-on floor supervision to ensure activities on the floor are performed in an efficient, timely, and safe manner.
- Supervises and trains staff to have the skills, knowledge, and support needed to provide clients with high-quality customer service and to ensure operational efficiencies and employee safety.
- Organizes and delegates tasks from daily, weekly, and monthly housekeeping checklists and monitors quality.
- Provides input into disciplinary issues in consultation with the Manager, Event Services and Housekeeping Services, and the Human Resources Department.
- Provides training for new staff in the proper care and use of cleaning equipment and supplies.
- Performs the role of an ambassador of safety and OHS protocols to ensure the well-being of staff and clients.
- Monitors housekeeping staff shift breaks (coffee breaks & lunch) to ensure set break times are adhered to.
- Answers housekeeping requests for service and ensures requests are completed.
- Ensures storage areas and Janitor rooms are kept organized and clean.
- Conducts daily building checks to ensure all client, public, and staff areas are kept up to standard.
- Reports and documents any maintenance issues.
- Inspects housekeeping equipment and reports any issues to the Manager, Event Services and Housekeeping Services.
- Ensures that all housekeeping work orders are completed and updated in event booking software.
- Maintains a positive working relationship with internal departments, in-house partners and external suppliers to ensure setup and teardown are coordinated in a timely and efficient manner.
- Completes a variety of housekeeping duties including but not limited to dry and wet mopping and auto-scrubbing, cleaning, stripping, waxing, and buffing floors, vacuuming, shampooing and maintaining carpets, dusting and polishing furniture, cleaning washrooms and replenishing supplies and general cleaning and tidying of all areas of the building.

- Intermediate computer skills including Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.
- Basic mathematics knowledge.
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
- Mechanically inclined to operate and maintain housekeeping equipment.
- Previous forklift training would also be an asset.

- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 3-5 years of experience in housekeeping, preferably in the hospitality industry with 1-2 years of supervisory duties.
- Legally eligible to work in Canada.
- Open availability for scheduling.
- Availability to work shift work, weekends, and holidays is a must.
- Knowledge of GHS, occupational health and safety regulations, and guidelines for working with hazardous materials (i.e., cleaning supplies).
- Completion of commercial cleaning courses would be a definite asset.
- Ability to work flexible and overtime hours is required.
- Physically fit to have the ability to lift up to 75 lbs (equipment) and push/pull a maximum of 798 lbs.
- Comfortable working at heights.
