Job Purpose

The Weld Inspector is responsible for overseeing all aspects of inspection and quality control within the facility. This role requires a strong collaboration with fabrication crews to ensure compliance with specifications and standards.
Roles and Responsibilities

- Understand and apply owner and client specifications.
- Familiarize yourself with and adhere to Academy’s QC Manual.
- Confirm that spool dimensions meet fabrication tolerances.
- Verify all elements and provide red stamp sign-offs for cut sheets.
- Conduct visual examinations of welds.
- Verify material grades, specifications, and heat numbers.
- Assess flange face and bevel preparations.
- Confirm orientations and dimensions of spools.
- Flag and coordinate Non-Destructive Testing (NDE) as required.
- Manage spools from PWHT, repads, and other processes as necessary.
- Maintain logs and daily tracking sheets for spools dimensioned each day.
- Understand and work according to priority sequencing.
- Notify the QC Lead of any defects or quality issues.
- Collaborate with welders to address and rectify defects.
- Evaluate material defects (e.g., D-Meter checks, depth of dents) to determine acceptability.
- Ensure welders and pipefitters follow Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), including preheat and uphill welding.
- Record welding parameters (amps, volts, travel speed) as needed.
Qualifications

- Minimum of 10 years’ experience as a rig welder (own rig, self-performer) prior to transitioning into QC.
- Experience in pipeline, fabrication, and facility construction is an asset.
- CSA 178.2 Level II certification required.
- CSA W47.1/W59 Level II certification required.
- A Journeyman Welder ticket is considered an asset.
- At least 5 years’ experience in Quality Control with a strong technical background, particularly in pipe fabrication.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in a fabrication shop is required.
- High School Diploma is mandatory.
- Previous experience in a QC office is required.
- Proficient in MS Office applications.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Detail-oriented and committed to accuracy.

Working Conditions
The position requires working in both a shop and office environment with moderate noise levels. Tasks may involve navigating stairs, working outdoors in inclement weather (including slippery surfaces and cold), and carrying objects as needed.
Physical Requirements
- Close visual acuity is required for tasks such as data analysis, transcribing, and extensive computer use.
- Ability to stand and sit for extended periods while performing visual inspections on the shop floor.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $40.00-$50.00 per hour
Expected hours: No less than 40 per week
