We are seeking an IT Operations Manager to join our Computer Services team. This key role will report to the interim Director of Information Technology and they will over-see the daily operations of the IT Department and provide leadership and execution of procedures and practices across the department and the entire school. This is a Temporary Contract position with the likelihood of an extension. The contract dates are June 14, 2021 to December 17, 2021.
Participates in the development of IT strategies and Policies in collaboration with the interim Director of IT;
Participates in the development of the IT Annual Plan and goals;
Implements and maintains procedures of the IT department;
Manages IT Operations budget with oversight from the interim Director of IT;
Manages inventory and ordering of IT operational supplies;
Oversees RMAs of operational equipment;
Assists with the planning and deployment of infrastructure security measures;
Practices IT asset management, including maintenance of component and software inventory and related documentation;
Supervises assigned staff and participates as an advisor to the Director in the recruitment, promotion, evaluation, training and development, and performance management of staff;
Allocates IT resources appropriately to ensure operations and projects are completed in the most efficient and timely manner to the highest quality;
Establishes, adopts, and enhances (as needed) effective processes, practices, tools and standards for development, delivery, and communication of IT initiatives;
Ensures effective recording, tracking and documenting of the service desk request problem-solving process, including all successful and unsuccessful decisions made, and actions taken, through to final resolution;
Provides support to the entire IT team and responds promptly and courteously to escalations coming into the groups help desk email, telephone or in person;
Ensures seamless routing and escalation of help desk issues and requests through to completion;
Ensures quality control of all IT work, support and deployments;
Along with Systems Administrator maintain backup of server and data and test the integrity of backups, and implementing disaster recovery solutions;
Ensure high profile school projects and campaigns receive reasonable technical support and resources to complete their objectives;
Manage the equitable distribution of team responsibilities to ensure sufficient resource allocation and successful execution;
Provide a working environment that is safe for team members to be challenged, learn, fail, and grow;
Monitors and responds to network, server, and security issues;
Oversees the maintenance of all workstations, servers, software, processes and procedures relating to network performance and monitoring, and system security within the organization;
Maintains a secure network environment, including but not limited to: network access, remote access, email, security and data access controls;
Oversees and performs the planning, scheduling, implementation, and configuration of virtualized environment, Windows Servers, software, network appliances, and peripheral devices, including system and application patches;
Monitors and audits all aspects of network and system security to comply with industry best practices;
Performs other related duties as required.
Completion of a College diploma program in Computer Systems (both hardware and software) and programing languages.
5-7 years’ experience in an IT Operations position.
1-3 years’ experience in a Team Leader or Manager role in IT.
Certifications in basic networking an asset.
Management training an asset.
Project management and or Business analyst experience.
An equivalent combination of training and/or experience may be considered.
Canadian residency and legally entitled to work in Canada
Demonstrated experience in assisting in developing, implementing and maintaining policies and procedures;
Exceptional customer service skills and the ability to handle potentially difficult and delicate situations with tact and diplomacy;
Ability to adapt, modernize and transform practices in a quickly changing environment;
Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks professionally and pleasantly during periods of high stress;
Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical users in a user-friendly language;
Highly self-motivated and self-directed with a keen attention to detail;
Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities
Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment in a leadership or supervisory role
Knowledge in financial forecasting and budgets;
Proven ability to troubleshoot workstation hardware, software and basic networking problems;
Solid knowledge of PC hardware and peripherals;
Experience in application support of Student Information Systems, Learning Management Systems, Constituent Relationship management systems and Human Resources management systems;
Ability to understand workflows in a helpdesk IT support tool;
Strong knowledge of basic networking (Ethernet, TCP/IP and file sharing);
Application support experience with MS Office 2016 and higher, Adobe Cloud products, Autodesk products and Google Workspace for Education;
Extensive knowledge working within an enterprise-class, windows server-based desktop environment;
Extensive experience in managing hardware through Mobile Device Management;
Knowledge of Active Directory and Windows Deployment Services;
Knowledge of working with Mac devices in an Active Directory environment
Access to a vehicle and the ability to travel between campuses.
