Under the direction of the Recreation Manager, the Supervisor assists with the planning, delivery, and supervision of recreation programs and events, including the Youth Room, Gymnasium, Climbing Centre, Youth Camps, and Pickleball.
The Supervisor enforces Club policies, provides excellent customer service, and serves as a positive role model who motivates and inspires the youth of the Calgary Winter Club (CWC).
Key Accountabilities
- Lead by example and positively impact the staff and members of the CWC, including youth
- Work collaboratively with the Recreation leadership team and staff, as well as other departments within the CWC
- Train new hires and retrain staff (in-services, on-the-spot feedback, shift reminders) as necessary in Recreation’s practices and procedures
- Engage and communicate with members and staff in a professional, respectful, and timely manner
- Supervise, motivate, coach and mentor front-line staff in hospitality practices that align with CWC’s values, de-escalation procedures, and proper escalation channels
- Provide timely incident reports and follow-up and be a champion of safety at the CWC
- Plan and instruct youth sports classes including climbing, physical literacy, basketball, volleyball, floor hockey, and pickleball
- Plan, organize, and implement events and tournaments for the Pickleball community
- Supervise youth drop-in-areas as well as organize games and activities
- Supervise the “Clip n Climb” Climbing Centre for drop-in and event / party use
- Plan, supervise and assist in after-school programs, movie nights, holiday events, and gymnasium drop-in activities
- Coordinate information for the registration guides, newsletters (weekly, monthly, quarterly), and other publications
- Assist with periodic reports including programming updates, trends, and statistics, and evaluations
- Provide timely feedback to Members and related staff regarding comments, suggestions, and concerns related to facilities and equipment
- Identify opportunities to improve, enhance, and expand Recreation’s offerings
- Assist Recreation Manager with equipment purchases, inventory, and maintenance
Knowledge & Skills
- Educational knowledge of Physical Literacy concepts and youth coaching techniques
- Superior facilitation, organization and time management skills
- Strong work ethic and initiative relating to continuous improvement
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated ability in decision making, judgment, and problem solving
- An understanding of Pickleball is an asset
Qualifications
- Degree in Recreation, Education, Sport Administration, Kinesiology, Physical Education or related field
- Leadership experience in a recreational setting
- Standard First Aid and CPR-C/AED certifications
- Flexibility in personal schedule to accommodate the demand of the position; available day-time, evenings, and weekends up to 40 hours per week
- Level of physical fitness to participate in activities with youth and other Members
- High Five PHCD, High Five Sport, Quest 2, Physical Literacy 101, or related coaching certifications are an asset
