The Focused Ultrasound Laboratory at the Sunnybrook Research Institute (SRI) in Toronto, Ontario is seeking a committed and motivated individual to fill the role of Lead Systems Research Engineer.
The Focused Ultrasound Laboratory
Our group is the leading laboratory in the world in the development of technology for completely non-invasive image-guided surgery and targeted drug delivery using focused ultrasound. The technology being developed in our group will be used to treat benign or malignant tumours and a variety of neurological disorders non-invasively. Many of our projects are conducted with close collaboration with the medical device industry.
The Position
The successful candidate will join an interdisciplinary fast-paced team of engineers and scientists to develop the next generation of transcranial focused-ultrasound therapy system. Specific responsibilities will include:
- Overseeing development of a one-of-a-kind medical system
- Making major engineering decisions to ensure delivery of milestones on time
- Managing safety aspects of the system and designing a protocol for test and verification
- Managing engineering aspects of smaller sub teams
- Speaking to investors and key stake holders
Essential Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in engineering (electronic, mechanical or computer). Masters and PhD preferred.
- 1+ years industry experience as an engineer
- Knowledge of safety standards (eg DO254, IEC 60601) and product development life cycles
- Experience working with hardware
- Demonstrated ability to work in a team and communicate effectively
- Excellent inter-personal and leadership qualities
- Passion to contribute to cutting-edge medical device development
Additional Qualifications
- P.Eng desirable
- Experience using requirements management software eg IBM doors
- Experience using document control
- Experience working in ultrasound, audio or signal processing highly desirable
- Prior experience leading a team
