Finance Manager, Corporate Accounting

Overall Purpose/Broad Function

Reporting to the Finance Director, Corporate Accounting, the Finance Manager - Corporate Accounting manages the corporate accounting function at NI’s International Headquarters, including field office support and audit and compliance.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Country/Regional Office Support

Provide analytical and technical support to NI’s Regional Finance Directors for all corporate accounting requirements.

Provides training and guidance to with respect to financial policies and procedures.

Provides support with ensuring that NI policies and procedures are being following and an adequate internal control environment is being maintained.

Corporate Accounting & Reporting

Manages the full cycle accounting and general ledger management: including reviewing and approving journal entries, A/P, A/R and other account reconciliations and analysis.
Ensures month-end/year-end close process is carried out effectively and within prescribed timelines.
Oversees weekly payment cycles, including reviewing transactions.
Prepares consolidated financial statements on a monthly basis for management review.
Oversees and provides support to ensure the timely filing of tax, regulatory documents and other statutory filings.
Provides input into the development of policies and procedures.
Liaises with Budget team on grant related adjustments and charge backs.
Oversees accounting software.
Prepares ad hoc reports as required
Treasury Management

Oversees management of cash and cash flow requirements.
Works with Budgeting team to provide input into cash flow forecasting, advises on investment opportunities.
Tracks and reconciles investments and interest.
Maintains listing of corporate signing officers, facilitates additions or removals with banks, credit cards and government authorities.

Assists with NI’s risk management strategy including internal and project audits as required.
Oversees and tracks the completion of all required statutory external audits.
Conducts initial review of and stores financial statements on corporate network.
Oversees external audit deadlines in conjunction with Senior Finance Officers.
Coordinates the preparation of all audit working papers for the consolidated external audit.
Liaises with external audit team.

Responsible for safeguarding financial records on corporate network in accordance with NI’s Information Management Strategy.

Provides input into organizational process review and improvement.

Assists and advises on Finance related Corporate Services projects

Other duties as required

Supervisory Responsibilities

Provides support and supervision to Senior Finance Officers and their direct reports.
Education/Professional Designations/Experience

University degree in accounting, finance or business and completion of a recognized Canadian accounting designation (CPA, CA, CGA, CMA).
A minimum of six - eight years accounting experience of which a minimum of three years is in a financial management role.
Language Skills

Fluent in English is required. French will be considered an asset.
Travel Requirements

Occasional travel to NI international offices.

Good judgement in analyzing data and information, and adapting procedures to accommodate new or unusual situations
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Sound technical and professional knowledge of finance and accounting
Ability of handle multiple tasks and prioritize accordingly
Self-motivated and confident
Experience with Dynamics GL considered an asset
Knowledge of international banking practices considered an asset
