The Data Analyst Programmer is responsible to support the Network Operations team by performing ad-hoc analysis and reports, developing automated reports and fully functioning software tools to drive business objectives. He provides technical expertise on CN data, including train and car movement, existing DataCity Operating Measures, and develops new measures as required. He works closely with business users to identify requirements, scope development work, and collaborate on technical approaches to quickly fulfil the business need. He takes full responsibility of assigned deliverables, aligns own workload and focus on key tasks in order to deliver as per service commitment, leveraging own expertise and skill set to achieve delivery goals.

Develop custom tools, websites, and automated reports using software development tools and reporting software. Work directly with end users to understand high-level goals and processes to shape requirements to best meet their needs. Develop high quality code to simplify long-term maintenance and iterative development process.

Do Ad hoc analysis of measures or data trends as per business need. Interpret the request and provide data driven analysis to convert that data to actionable information and insight.

Prototype new measures, developing rules and outputs. Clearly define functional specification, test cases and user documentation. Work with IT to implement changes to measures an IT supported systems.

Provide knowledge expertise of CN data, reports and measures. Support internal and external users of CN data to support their business objectives. Explain how existing reports operate, point to existing reports for similar new requests. Understand how measures are calculated and how theirs interactions based on historic trends.


College or Bachelor degree in Computer Sciences

2-5 years experience as a Software Developer, web experience preferred.

Software development experience in .NET, SQL, VBA.

Data proficiency a must: Relational Databases, MS Access, Excel

Strong analytical skills and ability to understand data

Process oriented

Other software tools: SAP Business Objects

Demonstrated ability to analyze, synthesize, translate business information
