Arena Caretaker / Ice Maintenance & Cleaning Contractor
Location: Diamond Jubilee Recreation Centre (Dickson Arena) – Spruce View, Alberta
Contract Term: October 1st to March 31st (Winter Season Only)
Compensation: Starting at $6,000/month
(Rate based on past contractor experience — flexible depending on performance and scope)
Estimated Hours:
- Weekdays: 3:00 PM – 10:00 PM
- Weekends: 8:00 AM – 10:00 PM
(Hours vary depending on rentals and events)
Important: This is a Contractor Position – Not an Employee Role
This is a seasonal contract running from October to March, ideal for an experienced individual or small business interested in working with the arena over multiple winter seasons.
The successful applicant must:
- Operate as an independent contractor (not an employee)
- Provide:
- Valid business/company number
- Active WCB coverage
- $3 million commercial liability insurance
- Be capable of daily travel to/from the facility (especially in winter conditions — no transportation assistance provided)
- Be available evenings and weekends
No employee benefits are provided
Part-time coverage is available through a returning subcontractor if needed for specific days
Potential for multi-season renewal
Responsibilities:
- Operate and maintain Zamboni / ice resurfacer
- Clean and maintain:
- Dressing rooms, washrooms, showers
- Lobby, spectator stands, meeting room, and upstairs viewing area
- Perform garbage removal and restocking
- Ensure the arena is clean, safe, and operational for all rentals and events
Qualifications:
- Ice maintenance experience (Zamboni or Olympia) preferred; training can be arranged
- Strong self-motivation and reliability
- Physically fit and capable of janitorial/light maintenance work
- Must provide:
-Company/business number
-WCB coverage
-$3M liability insurance
-Consent to a background check (due to working in an environment where minors may be present)
