Internal Accountant

About the Role
We are looking for an experienced Internal Accountant to join our growing team.
This is an in-house accounting position responsible for the day-to-day accounting and full-cycle bookkeeping for two related companies. Our company works with an external CPA firm that prepares the year-end financial statements, corporate tax returns, and provides professional tax advice. You will be responsible for maintaining accurate accounting records, completing month-end close, preparing supporting schedules, and working closely with the external CPA firm.
Responsibilities
- Manage the full accounting cycle for two related companies.
- Maintain the general ledger and prepare journal entries.
- Process Accounts Payable (AP) and Accounts Receivable (AR).
- Perform bank, credit card, and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Complete month-end closing and assist with year-end preparation.
- Prepare and file GST/HST, QST, payroll, and other government remittances.
- Prepare monthly financial statements and management reports.
- Process and reconcile intercompany transactions.
- Assist with inventory, cost accounting, cash flow management, and financial analysis.
- Prepare year-end working papers and supporting schedules for the external CPA firm.
- Continuously improve accounting processes and internal controls.
Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years of full-cycle accounting experience.
- At least 2 years of experience working in a CPA firm or public accounting firm.
- Strong hands-on experience with QuickBooks Online (QBO).
- Experience with intercompany accounting and reconciliations.
- Strong knowledge of Canadian accounting principles, GST/HST, QST, payroll, and month-end/year-end procedures.
- Strong computer skills with experience using QuickBooks Online (QBO), Dext, Shopify, and other cloud-based accounting and business systems. Ability to quickly learn new software and automated workflows.
- Ability to communicate effectively in English or French. Bilingual (English/French) is considered a strong asset.
- Detail-oriented, organized, self-motivated, and able to work independently.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with inventory and cost accounting.
- Experience in wholesale, construction, retail, or distribution industries.
- CPA designation or an accounting diploma/certificate is an asset.
