How will you make an impact?
As part of the project team, the primary responsibility of the Electrical Design Engineer is to deliver on electrical solutions for our engineered-to-order (ETO) automated laboratory equipment supplied to the pharma and biopharma research industries.
What will you do?
Participate as part of a project team including; Project Managers, Integrators, Mechanical Designers, Material Planning and Procurement
Prepare 2D electrical schematic drawings utilizing AutoCAD
Perform power distribution calculations and specify the electrical and other applicable utility requirements to properly and safely operate the automated system
Develop test plans, test and debug new systems or assemblies
Perform and document Safety Risk Assessments on the system design for compliance to locally legislated requirements such as OSHA, CSA, CE, UL, IEC or customer specific
Prepare Bills of Materials (BOM) pertaining to electrical assemblies for order release in the ERP system
Execute change management activities according to internal processes when required
Maintain a central design library for commonly used components and assemblies to allow for design efficiency and consistency project to project
Ensure design issues and/or problems are resolved effectively and properly vetted by the cross-functional team
Support root cause investigations and resolution with internal team members and vendors for electrical component/system related issues
Promote a cross-functional team environment through design reviews at key stages of the projects
Work with vendors to review designs for manufacturability and research the best components for the system
Investigate, recommend and implement design improvements to enhance quality and/or cost
Provide pre-order technical consultation when required in support of customer bids
Participate in post-mortem project reviews and contribute to the continuous improvement efforts
How will you get here?
Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
Professional Engineers of Ontario (P.Eng) license considered an asset
5 years’ experience in an electrical design role
Experience with robotic and/or automated systems considered an asset
CMSE or experience in Machinery Safety considered an asset
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
Proficiency with latest versions of AutoCAD
Knowledge of domestic and international electrical codes
Proficiency with MicroSoft office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
Able to work independently with minimal supervision to meet project deadlines
Detailed oriented with strong organizational and analytical skills
Excellent time management skills, able to manage competing priorities
Travel: occasional local travel may be required
