To be eligible for this position, you must meet the participant requirements under the Canada Summer Jobs Agreement with as outlined:
Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the beginning of the employment period- Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment
- Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
What you'll get to do:
Work with Family Literacy Assistant to conduct outreach for a Summer Program at CCS.- Plan and organize activities for newcomer children ages 7-12
- Purchase and organize supplies and materials
- Schedule activities, keep logs, maintain records and prepare reports
- Prepare pre and post evaluations and surveys for the parents, participants and the program.
- May train and supervise volunteers
- Demonstrate and instruct activities and sessions for the children; including arts, crafts, reading, mathematics and similar activities and lead in recreational or leisure programs
- Enforce safety rules and regulations
What you need to know/have:
Digital skills (ability to use MS Forms, develop needs assessments, Canva, etc.)- Good communication skills with children, parents and staff
- Ability to work alone, as well as part of a team
- Training for working with children
- Leadership and supervisory skills
- English and knowledge of a second language an asset
Location: 1200 Markham Road
Hours: 35 per week, occasional weekends and evenings may be required.
Compensation: $17.60 per hour
