We are looking for an intermediate People & Culture (P&C) Generalist who is a resourceful professional, someone who plays a crucial role in managing various aspects of the employee lifecycle and organizational culture, with a focus on our international business.
Located at our head office in Calgary, Alberta the P&C Generalist position will report to the Director of People & Culture.
Key Responsibilities:
- Key contact to maintain and give day-to-day support to our international business, responding to queries, providing guidance, and escalating issues when appropriate.
- Lead all immigration and work permit/visa management for our various projects. This will require research and understanding of highly detailed and confidential information, working with outside counsel and liaisons, and implementation in a timely manner.
- Heavily involved in the growth of our international business through full-cycle recruitment and onboarding.
- Embody the culture and core values and ensure they are embedded into the employee experience.
- Offer consultative services to support a wide range of P&C opportunities for our teams.
- Collaborate with the P&C team to ensure we are learning, growing, high performing and consistently delivering results.
- Work with the Director to execute on short- and long-term strategies and programs that include, but are not limited to employee engagement, performance management, employee relations, retention and rewards, benefits and compensation, payroll management and talent acquisition.
- Proactively coach and be a subject matter expert to all levels of the organization, while building strong trusting relationships.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable workplace standards, laws and regulations both in Canada and the US as well as other P&C policies.
- Investigate and resolve employee relations and performance management issues as required seeking support when needed.
- Maintain and administer all compensation and benefit plans as required.
- Promotes P&C best practices, evaluates innovative solutions while balancing business needs and requirements.
- Be a driver, facilitator & champion of all things culture.
- Administer internal technology and tools (including HRIS) while keeping aware of external trends.
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of HR processes, workflows, and documentation as well as records required for audit purposes and compliance.
- Work collaboratively with members of the P&C team, providing coverage for other roles and assisting in various projects as needed.
- Maintain a positive and professional image and always remain diplomatic and tactful, with an understanding of confidentiality in dealing with a variety of issues and stakeholders.
- Oversee all people changes that include transfers, promotions, terminations, etc.
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum post-secondary diploma in Human Resources or post-secondary degree in a related field; CPHR asset.
- Minimum 5-8 years of direct HR experience; minimum 2-3 years specifically as Generalist or HRBP.
- Minimum 1 year of international business and immigration experience is preferred, working directly on work permits and visa requirements for both inbound and outbound opportunities.
- Passion and talent for the full spectrum of HR functions and able to excel in relationships, and day to day support.
- Knowledge of current legislation and as well as current HR trends and best practices.
- Experience with labour relations an asset.
- Experience working in energy is an asset.
- Experience in a high growth environment and understand the evolution of HR as a company grows.
- Ability to build strong, trusting relationships at all levels of the organization.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and HRIS systems.
- Emotional intelligence with active listening skills.
- Highly organized with ability to handle multiple priorities at once.
- Trustworthy and honest - able to balance relationships in an organization.
- Strong ethics, integrity and professionalism especially when dealing with highly sensitive information and situations.
