Fort McMurray Catholic School Division (FMCSD) requires a classroom teacher for the Specialized Independent Living Programs for the 2026-2027 school year. This assignment requires someone with knowledge in the area of Special Education and working with children who have medical and complex needs.
This person will work collaboratively with their School Administrator's, Classroom Support Teacher, Division Educational/Special Education Learning Coach, and parents, to support students. The successful candidate will have knowledge and training in:
- literacy and numeracy knowledge and be able to support students with a range of literacy and numeracy skills
- knowledge and ability to differentiate instruction
- provide opportunities for life skills in the community including swim lessons, community outings and potential work skills
- practice communication and social skills with peers, other students, staff and community
- technology as a support to students who require augmentative communication supports
- working with students who have challenging behavior and has used a variety of approaches to prevent and reduce stress behaviors and be able to co regulate when child is upset
- communication skills and enjoys supporting high needs children and families to develop the highest level of academics and functional life skills
- support the coordination of internal and external professionals (psychology, speech language pathology, occupational therapy and physical therapy) in order to provide instructional and therapeutic programming for children within their school
- plan and support Educational Assistants
The successful candidate must be eligible for Alberta Teacher Certification and hold a Bachelor of Education Degree with experience working with students with complex needs. Post secondary studies Specialized Inclusive Education is an asset.
