The Ministry of Corrections and Policing pursues a fair justice system that upholds the law and protects the rights of all individuals in Saskatchewan. As corrections professionals, we provide the safe and secure custody of adult and young offenders and deliver programs that promote public safety and reduce reoffending. Custody Service Employees carry out their duties in a professional manner and with integrity in accordance with their experience, training and education and according to the Saskatchewan Corrections Code of Professional Conduct.

The Ministry is accepting applications for Permanent Part Time Correctional Officers across the province (Saskatchewan Correctional Facilities). Correctional Officers are positive, motivated and energetic role models that are non-judgmental and have excellent communication, interpersonal and problem solving skills. Correctional Officers are responsible and accountable, exhibit leadership, embrace diversity and equality, and treat everyone with dignity and respect.

A Correctional Officer will:
work closely with adult offenders who may have special needs, gender differences and various cultural and spiritual belief systems,
manage a caseload of adult offenders, applying various counseling methodologies including addressing criminogenic factors and their relationship to human behaviour;
establish, build and maintain work relationships with effective interpersonal communication (both written and verbal);
appropriately apply policy, procedures and legislation
be responsible for security of adult inmates in different correctional settings;
maintain a level of fitness to meet the requirements of a physically demanding work environment;
accurately input, update, and format information using a variety of computer software and electronic systems;
be available for shift work

Requirements:Knowledge and experience working:
within criminal justice system and processes
human behaviours;
various counseling and case management practices.
Typically, a university degree in the Social Sciences or closely related discipline, a diploma in Correctional Studies, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience is required.

Expected Requirements are:
A valid Saskatchewan Correctional Officers’ Physical AbilitiesTest (COPAT)
First Aid CPR/AED.
A valid driver's license.
  • Please note: Candidates who have successfully passed all assessment stages up to and including the interview stage may be placed in a facility (facilities) in which they expressed interest. Only these candidates will be contacted to attend and successfully complete a paid mandatory Induction Training Program (ITP) of at least nine-weeks starting in October, 2019 (may start as early as mid-September 2019).
The Pine Grove Correctional Centre in Prince Albert is a facility for women only. Since this position requires daily contact with the female residents in the living quarters, this competition is restricted to female applicants. Corrections and Policing relies on Section 48 of the Saskatchewan Human Rights Code to give preference in employment for this position
