Position: Cloud Data Administrator
Reports to: Manager, IT Infrastructure & Operations
Position Term: Permanent, Full-time

Job Purpose:
The Cloud Data Administrator is responsible for day-to-day database administration, production system support, database-related requests in an environment that includes multiple types of databases. This includes, but is not limited to, Snowflake, Microsoft SQL on Prem and Azure. Activities include installation and upgrading SQL Server software as well as monitoring, tuning, and reporting on the database environments. The Cloud Data Administrator participates in projects and information architecture development. The Cloud Data Administrator may also install and perform limited administration of packages that interact with SQL Server databases.
Duties and responsibilities
- Responsible for maintaining, securing and optimizing performance of both cloud data platforms (such as Azure SQL, Snowflake) and on-premises SQL servers
- Monitor the health of the data platforms. Includes disk space management, memory optimization, indexing, security, and backups
- Familiar with tools used for data movement, or data extraction, transformation and loading (ETL), such as Azure Data Factory (ADF), TIBCO Scribe and Liquibase, and able to update data pipelines according to best practices
- Install, tune, maintain and upgrade Data Platform installations. This includes Snowflake, Azure SQL SaaS, Physical clustered environments, Always On Availability groups and single node.
- Investigating SSIS issues, and maintaining existing SSIS code.
- Provide documentation on the data platforms.
- Emergency support in the event of server crashes, deadlocks, and process blocking. Database recovery.
- Provide user support with query tuning and optimization.
- Support systems development by acting as subject matter expert in database usage and servers. Perform ad hoc code development, maintenance, and testing as required.
- Works with development teams to ensure that changes in databases are probably deployed through CI/CD pipelines
- Capable of analyzing data requirements and designing database solutions in order to support business objectives at the organizational level
- Research emerging database tools and technologies, and determine opportunities to utilize them at World Vision. Provide recommendations on what database tools, and structures should be used for solutions being developed.
Qualifications:
- Post-secondary degree/diploma required, preferably in Information Technology
- Snowflake Administration - 5+ years experience
- SQL Server Administration - 5+ years experience
- Windows Server Administration is an asset.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience designing, installing, maintaining, troubleshooting SQL Server database environments. Familiar with TSQL and SSIS.
- Good interpersonal skills
- Good problem-solving skills.
