Bathe, diaper and feed infants and toddlers, support early childhood educators in carrying out programs that promote the physical, cognitive, social and emotional development of children. Engage children in activities by telling stories, teaching songs and preparing art activities. Prepare snacks and arrange rooms or furniture for lunch and rest periods, submit written observations on children to early childhood educators or supervisors. Discuss progress of children at staff meetings.
Develop and implement childcare programs that support and promote the physical, cognitive, social and emotional development of children. Lead activities by telling or reading stories. Teaching songs and communicating with children, taking them to local points of interest, spend significant amounts of time in the forest and outdoors in nature, provide opportunities to express creativity through the media of art, dramatic play, music and physical activity. Guide and assist children in the development of healthy eating, dressing and personal hygiene and care. Observe children’s progress, interests, development, behavioural concerns and prepare reports for parents, guardians or supervisor. Knowledge of the day care act, knowledge of licensing regulations, establish guidelines for behaviour, assess the abilities, interests and needs of the children and discuss progress or problems with parents and other staff members, establish and maintain collaborative relationships with co-workers and community service providers working with children. Plan and maintain and environment that protects the health, security and well-being of children.
