Job Profile:
The successful candidate will be reporting to the department manager and will be responsible for all aspects of administrative necessary to ensure the continuous efficient operation of the department.
Job Responsibilities / Duties:
1. Assist members with matters related to WSIB, CPP Disability and EI claims:
- provide advice and guidance on WSIB policies and procedures;
- provide general information about the insurance schemes, including policies, appeal process and associated timelines;
- assist members with initiating a claim and ensuring that a complete and accurate application is filed;
- investigate circumstances of claim by obtaining and analyzing relevant information and conducting interviews;
- advise and direct injured workers, survivors, and their families regarding issues and evidence required for a successful resolution;
- work on files from early resolution up to the Administrative Tribunal (WSIAT, SST);
- prepare representation and reconsideration documents and other related correspondence and forms;
- draft written submissions for WSIB and CPP-disability claims;
- review decision timelines with members, monitor and follow-up accordingly;
- assist in the collection and compilation of evidence to support a claim;
- track the status of time sensitive documents;
- verify that the case documentation is complete and pertinent;
- monitor and record the various actions and events of a claim;
- partner with other departments to assist and guide members who are dealing with WSIB, CPPD, and/or EI Claims to ensure they are aware of all potential benefits.
2. Provide necessary supplemental coverage to other positions within the department as necessary.
3. Provide general administrative and clerical support to the department:
- receive mail or correspondence for department;
- open and review correspondence and determine proper action to be taken;
- maintain department supplies and inventories;
- track status and order and maintain supplies as required;
- perform data gathering and research activities and provides reports to summaries of information collected;
- organize and maintain paper and electronic files;
- prepares and maintains reports of records and other statistical and quantitative data in Excel, coordinates the filing, retrieval, dissemination and storage of active and inactive member claims.
4. Other general clerical duties as assigned by management.
Job Requirements:
- Experience and ability to assist in drafting correspondence and appeals to the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board;
- Demonstrated ability to assist with claims through the adjudication process;
- Demonstrated knowledge of the Workplace Safety and Insurance Act and related legislation;
- Demonstrated knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Act, Canada Pension Plan and Employment Insurance legislation is an asset;
- Experience representing injured workers before the WSIB;
- Paralegal certification is an asset;
- Experience working with injured workers in the construction industry considered an asset;
- Strong medical knowledge relating to workplace insurance and CPP disability matters;
- Ability to perform medical and legal research utilizing the Internet, online databases, legal reporter services and legal acts;
- Aptitude with figures and mathematic proficiency is a must as individual must compute various averages and use of formulas;
- Ability to meet strict deadlines in a high volume work environment;
- Strong oral communication skills and ability to provide advice and accurate information;
- MUST be proficient in Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Work, Outlook and PowerPoint;
- Attention to detail and accuracy;
- Protection of information and confidentiality;
- Demonstrated high standard of professional conduct, ethics and reliability;
- Must be self motivated, detail-oriented and highly organized;
- Excellent written and proofreading ability;
- Strong interpersonal skills;
- Initiative to solve problems and ability to prioritize tasks;
- Strives to grow professionally through continuous study and keeps alert to current practices concerning this position;
- Calm and composed in stressful situations;
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team;
- Comprehension of Italian or Portuguese considered an asset.
