Primary Purpose: Individuals will assist the coordinators of convocation with set up and take down for the convocation ceremonies, and assisting students, staff, faculty and guests during the ceremonies.

Nature of Work: The University Events Coordinator and Coordinator of Convocation supervise this position. Individuals must be able to lift 20 pounds and be able to be on be on their feet for long periods. The pace of work is busy and requires attention to detail. This position requires long days.

Typical Duties or Accountabilities: Convocation Ushers assist with checking tickets, helping guests find seats, leading VIP guests and ceremony participants to their appropriate holding areas, parking assistance, helping guests find reserved seating, helping students find where they are going, answering student or guest questions and directing to the appropriate person or area, assist with gown pick up and drop off, assist in photography area, lead student procession with the university dignitaries, put up and take down signage and décor as needed, distributing programs to the alumni volunteers, holding room, green room and stage. Other duties as assigned by the Events and Convocation Coordinators or other convocation office staff as needed.

Education: Current Students, in all programs

Experience: customer service and event experience ideal

Skills: Excellent customer service skills, clear and confident communications skills, hardworking, ability to think quickly on your feet in a fast paced environment, friendly, confident and outgoing personalities are an asset in this position.

Hours of Work: Casual hours of work, due to its nature, cannot be scheduled, anticipated, projected, may be of very limited duration/brief or irregular periods. Therefore, please be advised there are no guaranteed hours of work for casual appointments. Your hours of work will be scheduled from Tuesday, November 12 to Wednesday, November 13 between the hours of 7:00am-6:00pm. The exact times and total number of hours will be determined by your supervisor but will be approximately 10-15 hours total. Due to the nature of the event, some overtime may be required. In this case overtime will be paid in accordance with CUPE 1975 rules for casual positions. All work shall be conducted in accordance with University policies, procedures, and statutes pertaining to health, safety and environment
