Qualifications:
A bachelor’s degree in an appropriate specialty, notably psychology, psychoeducation, or social work
Other Requirements:
- Experience working with adults who have developmental, social-emotional, behavioral, and academic difficulties in educational settings
- Deescalation training an asset
- Training and experience in the use of best practices for students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in inclusive education setting example- functional behavior assessment, visual schedules & supports
- Thorough understanding of, social-communication, behavioral management, and inclusive education philosophy
- Experience working on a multidisciplinary team
- Experience consulting with and directly modeling intervention strategies for teachers and support staff
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
- Strong presentation skills and experience leading professional development in differentiated learning
- Must possess a car and a valid driver’s license
- Must be able to work in summer
- Must be able to drive between two campuses
- Familiarity with the TEVA process
- Knowledge of the CASP system of grading
Nature of the work
The position of readaptation officer primarily encompasses responsibility for: (a) detecting, evaluating, helping and guiding adult students experiencing learning challenged or who are at-risk for social maladjustments; (b) creating conditions conducive to the development of functional autonomy, (c) providing intervention focused on the attitudes and behaviors that adversely affect the student’s learning and social integration; and (d) offering guidance and support to school personnel and parents.
Characteristic functions
The readaptation officer participates in the development and implementation of a psychoeducational service that meets the academic and administrative requirements of both the educational institutions and the school board. They contribute to the detection of difficulties and identification of students experiencing challenges, using an approach focusing on prevention and intervention; work with a multidisciplinary team to create and review a student's individualized education plan (ASEP) by including within the ASEP, when necessary, the student’s own specific action plan; participates in defining intervention objectives and means; work with other team members to harmonize and coordinate interventions and to evaluate the achievement of objectives.
Daily Tasks/Dossiers
Provide guidance to school teams regarding adapted educational services for students with learning disabilities and other challenges.
Develops and supports the implementation of strategies to promote learning, social integration, communication, behaviour management, and autonomy.
Supports teachers in adapting curriculum-based materials and activities to meet the needs of the students.
Builds capacity within school teams via instruction and modeling of best practices.
At the request of school administrators or student services, the readaptation officer provides professional development
workshops/presentations.
When necessary, the readaptation officer facilitates parent meetings or multidisciplinary team meetings.
When necessary, the readaptation officer assists in the management of a crisis or emergency situation
- Coordinates the SOS Department including the overseeing of technology used in the administration of examinations and scheduling of Special Education Technicians, Integration Aides and Attendants.
- Oversees the Alternative program with recruitment of students, diagnostic testing and teacher support with accommodations.
- Hosts information sessions on our alternative programs and resources for students requiring support
- Co-chairs Resource Department meetings and participates in external committees when required such as SNNAP
- With the assistance of the pedagogical consultants and administration, organizes Ped days for staff, student events and other activities during the school year.
