Learner and Academic Services brings together academic development, delivery and quality assurance of learning systems while providing resources and services designed to help students reach their full academic potential. The Learner and Academic Services department is seeking a professional, customer focused, Academic Coach to work in the Lamb Learner Success Centre (LLSC) on a casual, as needed basis. The Academic Coach facilitates the success of SAIT students through the development and presentation of course or program specific workshops, transitions courses and one-on-one activity with students in topic areas such as reading strategies, managing time, improving memory, preparing for and taking tests.
This is a part-time/casual position and may involve some evening and weekend work.

Job Description

Provide assistance via online learning platforms (e.g. D2L) or other technological means.
Develop and facilitate courses and workshops on learning strategies such as managing time, reading text, preparing for exams and taking multiple choice tests.
Tailor workshop content for delivery for students in a specific course or knowledgeable about how different subjects are taught and evaluated to suggest appropriate learning strategies for the student.
Collaborate with classroom instructors and academic chairs to understand the course content, style of instruction and method of evaluation in order to create appropriate workshop content.
Meet individually with students to instruct them on a variety of learning strategies.
Develop a positive working relationship with each student
Modify the planned activities of a session to address the presenting concerns of the student
Consult and collaborate with other service areas (e.g. Peer Assistant and Leader program, Student Development and Counselling Services, Accessibility Services, Health Services) to make referrals and ensure appropriate interventions are offered.
Other duties as assigned

Bachelor degree in Education, Psychology, or Adult Learning
Prior teaching experience, with experience in a post-secondary setting strongly recommended
Experience working with adult students who have learning difficulties and barriers to learning
Knowledge of learning theory
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Knowledge of basic counselling or coaching skills
Demonstrated organizational skills and initiative
Ability to work in a team environment and independently
Ability to exercise creativity in solving problems
Ability to use independent judgment with a minimum amount of supervision
Experience in a post-secondary environment is preferred
Knowledge of community resources an asset
Knowledge of adaptive technology is an asset
Knowledge of psycho-educational assessments is an asset
