JOB DESCRIPTION
Position: Metal Tool Sharpener / Vollmer Machine Operator
Department: Service
Job Classification: Hourly Non-Exempt
Location: Vaughan, Ontario
Core Hours:
1st Shift / Mon. - Fri. / 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
Supervision: Position reports to Shop Supervisor

NOTE: This position requires the lifting and moving of heavy items.
Summary/Objective
The CNC machinist operates 5 machines and may later be trained in other computer
numerical control or manual machines that are associated with the making or sharpening
of cutting tools. The position runs production lots, communicates with co-workers
regarding production runs, gets along well with others, and maintains a safe, organized,
and clean work environment. This position requires experience with 5 axis CNC
machines and dedication to the quality of production and performance efficiencies.
Essential Functions

1. Operate and program 5 axis CNC.
2. Machine parts to specification.
3. Use inspection equipment for measuring.

7. Maintains safe operations and work area by adhering to safety procedures and

8. Maintains equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements;
following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for
repairs.
9. Performs all assigned machine shop operations.
10. Detects and reports defective materials to management or designee.
11. Performs inspection of machined products, and documents results.
12. Completes and maintains paperwork for parts.
13. Assists in other work areas to perform fabrication and lay-up.
14. Read, understand, and follow all Leitz Tooling Systems LP health and safety
protocol and procedures.

Supervisory Responsibility
This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities.
Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to airborne
particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level in the work environment
can be moderate.
Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an
employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the
duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is
frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with
hands and arms. The position requires frequent lifting, pushing, and pulling objects that
are 75 pounds or heavier.
The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or
crawl. The employee must frequently lift and move objects weighting at least 75 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, colour
vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. Typical days and hours of work are Monday through Friday,
7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Some flexibility in hours is allowed and must work 32 hours each
week to maintain full-time status. Normal schedule is 40 hours plus overtime (overtime is
required and will vary depending on workload).
Travel
No travel is expected for this position. Travel for training may be required.
Required Education and Experience
1. High school diploma or equivalent.
2. Minimum two years of 5 Axis CNC operation experience.
3. Ability to read and utilize measuring equipment and metric system.
4. Ability to program conversational controller.
Preferred Education and Experience
1. Knowledge of metal grinding with CNC.
2. Vollmer machine experience is a plus.
3. CAD experience is a plus
