Salary/Pay Grade: $30-35 per-hour

POSITION SUMMARY
The Natural Resources Coordinator supports the planning, coordination, and delivery of Lower Nicola Indian Band (LNIB) natural resource and environmental initiatives. The role works collaboratively with the Director of Economic Development and other internal and external partners to support projects related to aquatics, fisheries, forestry, stewardship, and environmental restoration.
The position is involved in approved initiatives from planning through implementation and reporting and does not carry independent decision-making authority.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- PROJECT SUPPORT & COORDINATION
- • Support and participate in approved natural resource and environmental initiatives under the direction of the Director of Economic Development.
- Provide support to aquatic and fisheries-related projects, including:
- • Nicola Watershed Governance initiatives (Planning Table and nk’eʔxép Management Committee)
- Sea to Stream initiatives
- Water quality sampling and monitoring activities
- Support forestry and land stewardship activities, including:
- • 2 Billion Tree initiative
- Indigenous Protected and Conserved Areas (IPCA) initiatives
- Support environmental restoration initiatives, including the Helmer Dam Project.
- Participation in these initiatives is supportive in nature and does not include independent authority or project ownership.
- WORK PLANNING, MONITORING, AND REPORTING
- • Develop and maintain project work plans, timelines, and budgets in collaboration with the Director of Economic Development for approved initiatives.
- Monitor project deliverables and timelines and advise the Director of Economic Development of risks, delays, or matters requiring direction.
- Support data collection, monitoring, and basic technical coordination related to approved initiatives.
- FUNDING, REPORTING, AND ADMINISTRATION
- • Support the identification of funding opportunities related to approved initiatives.
- Contribute to funding applications, proposals, and supporting documentation as directed.
- Prepare and submit internal, quarterly, progress, and final project reports in accordance with funding agreements and established timelines.
- Maintain organized project files, records, and documentation in accordance with LNIB procedures.
- Ensure work is completed in accordance with LNIB Personnel Policy, procedures, and approved processes, including administrative, financial, and procurement requirements.
- COLLABORATION, COMMUNICATION, AND ENGAGEMENT
- • Support engagement with LNIB community members by sharing timely and accessible project information.
- Coordinate meetings, workshops, and information sessions related to natural resource initiatives in collaboration with internal teams.
- Work collaboratively with LNIB departments, partners, consultants, and funding agencies.
- Maintain timely and professional internal communication and respond to requests for information within reasonable timelines.
- PERFORMANCE AND ACCOUNTABILITY
- • Perform duties in accordance with direction provided by the Director of Economic Development.
- Meet established timelines, quality standards, and reporting requirements.
- Escalate issues, delays, or risks in a timely manner to support informed decision-making.
- Performance is evaluated based on timeliness, accuracy, collaboration, and adherence to LNIB direction and policy.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Experience in natural resource management, environmental planning, or program coordination
- Demonstrated experience leading or supporting multi-stakeholder projects
- Experience working with a First Nations government, or in community-based project environments
- Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Experience implementing or supporting natural resource projects, including reporting and compliance requirements
- Ability to speak, or willingness to learn the Nlaka’pamux language is considered an asset
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s Degree in biology, geography, natural resource management, forestry, environmental studies, anthropology, or a related field, plus a minimum of two (2) years of related experience
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work respectfully with diverse partners and stakeholders
