Position: Occupational Therapist
Location: Burlington, ON
Job Type: Part-Time (Flexible Hours)
Responsibilities:
- Client Assessments: Conduct assessments of clients with developmental, sensory, and motor needs, particularly focusing on children with autism and other neurodevelopmental conditions.
- Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Work closely with Speech-Language Pathologists to develop and implement treatment plans that address both sensory-motor and communication challenges.
- Individualized Therapy Plans: Develop customized therapy plans to improve sensory processing, motor coordination, and daily living skills. Collaborate on joint treatment sessions with the SLP team.
- Family and Caregiver Education: Provide education to families and caregivers on strategies to continue therapeutic interventions at home.
- Report Writing and Documentation: Maintain up-to-date records on client progress and outcomes, preparing reports as needed for team meetings or client reviews.
- Team Meetings: Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings to review and update treatment plans based on client progress.
What the Role Entails:
- Collaborating with Speech-Language Pathologists to support clients, particularly individuals on the autism spectrum, by addressing both sensory-motor and communication needs.
- Working with families to develop practical strategies for home and school environments.
- Implementing feeding therapy for individuals with sensory sensitivities, working in tandem with SLPs to address both sensory and communication aspects of feeding.
- Assisting with self-regulation techniques for children who experience sensory overloads or challenges with focus and attention.
- Incorporating play-based therapy into sensory integration techniques to enhance social communication and participation.
Requirements:
- Licensure: Must be licensed with the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario (COTO).
- Education: A Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy or equivalent from a recognized institution.
- Experience: Minimum of 1-2 years of experience working with children and individuals with autism, developmental delays, or other neurodevelopmental conditions. Also, experience in Sensory Integration or Autism Spectrum Disorder interventions are preferred but not mandatory.
- Skills: Strong interpersonal and communication skills, ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team, and a compassionate approach to client care.
