JUNIOR ESTIMATOR/CONTRACT ADMINISTRATOR
Capital Infrastructure Group Inc., an industry-leading company experiencing tremendous growth, is seeking a Junior Estimator/Contract Administrator. This role combines the responsibilities of estimating project costs and administrating contracts, working closely with the Project Managers and Construction Managers on ensuring infrastructure meets project requirements, to deliver tender & contract documents on large scale Infrastructure projects such as water/waster water, road works, civil remediation and the development of underground infrastructure.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Estimating
- Analyze documents, specifications, proposals, and addendums in preparation for pricing
- Perform quantity take-offs from construction drawings where applicable
- Obtain pricing from suppliers and incorporate into estimates
- Formulate all costs for tender submission, including labor, equipment, materials, rentals, and subcontracts
- Ensure accuracy and completeness of tender submissions
- Perform post-bid and post-project analysis to drive project success and learning
- Assist with RFPs and general contract tender submissions
- Maintain estimating data systems and ensure they are up-to-date
Contract Administration
- Prepares outline specifications on a trade by trade basis, based on the approved Schedule A
- Oversees the electronic tender, sends out emails to trades inviting them to bid for their services, including the specifications of the project for that specific trade, as well as directions on how to access the drawings online.
- Determines the major suppliers
- Coordinates with the manager to ensure that all final drawings are posted either on the website or the server for trades to access.
- Collects all the tenders and organizes them in a spreadsheet form allowing for easy comparison
- Liaises with principals and makes tender awarding recommendations based on price, workload, type of project, trade capability and volume that can be produced.
- Assists with all trades and negotiates on price, timing, length of contract, payment schedules and amount of forces necessary for optimum performance within the construction guidelines
- Oversees the preparation of the contracts and administration, checks contracts after signatures to ensure that additions by the trade are within scope originally set out
- Troubleshoots when there are conflicts with product or supply issues
SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
- 1-3 years in an estimating/administrative role in construction is a strong asset
- Familiar with Biddingo, Bids & Tenders, Ariba, Merx
- Maintains a professional demeanour at all times with fellow employees, vendors, sub-contractors and clients
- Ability to cope under pressure and maintain focus, dealing effectively with setbacks while remaining positive
- Embraces change and always willing to adopt new practices
- Ability to approach problems logically, under pressure and seek innovative solutions
- Communicates effectively (verbally and written) at all levels within an organization and with external parties including enforcing authorities
- Values and respects others, encourages and supports diversity
- Ability to work independently with limited supervision
- Knowledge of applicable design standards, OPS specifications, standard drawings, and quality control / quality assurance material testing methods.
