Job Summary:
The WSIB Paralegal will complete full cycle WSIB/WCB worker’s compensation claim management and represent clients in WSIB and WSIAT hearings. With a strong foundation in Ontario’s WSIB processes and appeals, the ideal candidate will bring a minimum of 5-10 years of experience in written and oral hearings. Experience in case managing workplace injuries in Ontario is essential, with additional experience in other provincial Workers’ Compensation programs considered an asset.
Key Responsibilities:
Hearing Representation:
Represent clients in written and oral hearings before the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) and the Workplace Safety and Insurance Appeals Tribunal (WSIAT).
Prepare and present cases, including drafting submissions, conducting legal research, and ensuring compliance with all relevant statutes and regulations.
Case Management:
Provide end-to-end case management for workplace injury claims, complete initial intake, liaise with employer and WSIB, provide employer with recommendations and follow to ensure appropriate claim conclusion.
Develop and implement return-to-work (RTW) strategies and coordinate with employer, and WSIB representatives as needed.
Monitor and update clients on case progress, advising on rights, obligations, and risks under Ontario's workplace injury legislation, and other pertinent legislation considerations.
Claims Analysis & Documentation:
Review claim documentation to identify claim issues, required evidence, and opportunities for appeal or resolution.
Draft persuasive legal arguments and support documentation for claims and appeals.
Stakeholder Communication:
Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to gather relevant information for claims and appeals, maintaining professional communication at all stages of the case.
Act as a trusted advisor to clients on WSIB and WSIAT matters, providing education and ongoing support for employer obligations and rights under Ontario’s workplace injury framework.
Compliance & Legal Research:
Stay updated on WSIB policies, legislative changes, and tribunal rulings to provide informed advice.
Ensure all actions taken are compliant with WSIB, WSIAT, and relevant legislative standards in Ontario and, where applicable, in other provinces.
Qualifications:
Education & Certification:
Paralegal License in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario.
Certification or specialized training in WSIB and workplace injury management is an asset.
Experience:
5-10 years of experience handling written and oral hearings before WSIB and WSIAT.
Extensive case management experience in Ontario workplace injury claims.
Experience with workplace injury claims in other provinces is considered an asset.
Skills & Competencies:
Strong understanding of Ontario’s workplace injury and workers' compensation legislation, with familiarity in other provinces an asset.
Excellent legal writing and advocacy skills for drafting submissions and preparing persuasive case arguments.
Strong analytical skills and attention to detail in managing complex cases and interpreting legal documents.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with clients, colleagues, and other stakeholders.

Pay: $70,000.00-$80,000.00 per year
