We are now hiring a highly skilled and customer focused senior designer to join our fast-paced, fun and productive team.
Responsibilities
- Oversee all design projects, from conception to delivery
- Supervise junior and new designers on a daily basis. Provide technical advice, training and guidance. Review final layouts of other designers to evaluate manufacturing feasibility, ensure an overall consistency and quality across all projects, and suggest improvements when necessary
- Consult with customers to brainstorm ideas, review code compliance, and determine overall needs and timelines of projects
- Produce lettering, images and layouts for fabrication & installation of signs using specialized software such as CorelDRAW, Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator under illuminated or non-illuminated sign projects in accordance with customer requirements
- Prepare signage technical drawings for sign related permits including city sign permit, sign variance permit and M.T.O. sign permit
- Calculate material usage in manufacturing including for aluminum, wood, metal, acrylic, LED, electrical components, etc.
- Lay out print measurements and specifications for production. Trouble shoot with subcontractors in the field specific to manufacturing standards and methods of installation, and provide guidance and modifications as needed
- Research and analyze best design techniques and solutions, determine overall visual effects as well as detailed graphic elements for all company deliverables such as brochures, pamphlets, posters, trade show display, advertising flyers, light box, etc.
- Produce engaging motion graphics for the company website. Digitize images using peripherals and transform them using retouching systems, graphic palettes or specialized software
- Determine size and arrangement of illustrative material and copy, select style, and arrange layout based upon available space, aesthetic design, and production requirements
- Oversee and coordinate the manufacturing and publication process for graphic design deliverables to ensure compliance with design specifications
- Estimate cost and time of completing design projects. Meet deadlines by setting priorities.
Requirements
Education
- A university degree or college diploma in graphic design or a related field
Work Experience
- 2-3 years’ experience in the Canadian sign industry; previous experience with digital printing and sign creation is a must
Language
- Effective English skills both written and verbal
Technical Acumen
- Deep familiarity with the Canadian sign industry; solid knowledge of architectural signage, cabinet signs, channel lettering, monument and pylon structures as well as their basic construction and installation details
- Familiarity with procedures and specifications of city permit application
- Ability to read/interpret production drawings
- Intermediate or advanced knowledge of CorelDRAW, Photoshop and Illustrator
- Understanding of LED design for lighting signage products
- Solid understanding of UL and CSA requirements for signage installation
- Familiarity with Ontario sign regulations
- Keen awareness of manufacturing standards for signs

Job Type: full-time (35 hours/week), permanent
