AltaGas - Senior Analyst, Commodity Position Management
As an integral part of the Commercial Team, the Business Analytics & Position management team works closely with the Supply, Marketing, Logistics, and Accounting Teams. Reporting to the Manager, Commodity Position Management, and collaborating closely with the Marketing & Trading Business Analytics team, the Senior Analyst will be responsible for managing physical and financial trading positions for a given Trade Desk using Allegro, AltaGas’ Energy Trading & Risk Management (ETRM) system. The Senior Analyst will also oversee model maintenance, development, and business tool creation to resolve data discrepancies.
You will:

Accountable for the accuracy of Allegro (our ETRM system) data within a given Trade Desk, including creating, maintaining, and using external tools and models to translate and transform that data for cross-disciplinary use

Ensure Allegro positions are accurate, including planned, forecasted, nominated, and actual volumes through a daily reconciliation process

Support & resolve daily risk reporting discrepancies and support end-of-day (EOD) sign-off activities

Ensure positions are ready to be actualized and settled/invoiced by the Accounting team based on third-party statements, BOLs, or best available information

Provide issue resolution to support settlement/invoicing, liaising between Accounting, Logistics, and Commercial

Ensure trade optionality is reflected appropriately for risk management
You have:
-
Relevant university degree in either Statistics, Commerce, Economics, Finance, or Engineering

5-7 years of reporting, processing, and analyzing sales/financial data experience in the energy industry with knowledge of Midstream business strongly preferred

Expert user in Excel, Power BI and exposure to SQL, Python or other Query/Reporting languages is preferred

Commercial logistics and/or Accounting background would be an asset (preferably within Midstream)

Working knowledge of NGLs, Crude, and Natural Gas in North American & Global markets, able to discern position implications of standard commercial communications

ETRM / CTRM/ Allegro or similar system experience

Working knowledge of logistics practices and scheduling, adjusting positions based on physical movements

Interpersonal skills, able to build relationships across disparate functions

Self-starter, able to work independently and provide coaching/guidance to junior team members

Strong attention to detail, proven ability to prioritize, multi-task, and meet critical deadlines

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

Superior oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
