Reporting to the Sr. Supervisor Process Engineering and Process Safety Management, the Process Engineering Specialist will support long term improvement to safe, efficient, reliable plant performance.
What you will do:
Act as the overall process engineering subject matter expert
Provide independent technical support, expertise, and decision making to support changes to plant operation and capital projects, understand and improve environmental performance, and improve process safety on site
Promote and contribute to successful capital project implementation
Support project justification and business case development, provide accurate, timely and thorough design input and design review, and provide technical troubleshooting and issue resolution support in support of capital projects
Mentor and review work from process engineers as needed, provide process engineering review and validation of work by co-op students, EITs, and third-parties
Perform and initiate effective and timely engineering and technical studies to troubleshoot known plant problems, predict impending problems and to optimize plant operations in the areas of safety, production, efficiency, cost and environmental performance
Drive improvement and perform thorough process reviews on proposed changes to plant equipment, processes and systems via the plant Management of Change (MOC) process including facilitation of Pre start-up Safety Reviews (PSSR)
Perform incident investigations, identify improvement recommendations and take ownership of appropriate action items for completion
Research and evaluate industry technology advancements, other plant experiences and innovative ideas
Develop and maintain networks with other Nutrien and Nitrogen industry plants
Perform special studies/calculations and champion initiatives as directed by the Sr. Supervisor Process Engineering and Process Safety Management and Engineering Manager
Provide backfill support for Process and Operations Engineering Positions
Follow all internal discipline specific engineering standards and RAGAGEPs and ensure adherence to applicable regulatory codes and standards
Maintain a strong safety and environmental compliance focus and support environmental and energy conservation calculations, reporting, and initiatives
Develop recommendations for continuous improvement to department processes
Contribute within a team environment and establish strong working relationships with onsite and offsite functional groups to achieve results
What you will bring:
Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering
Minimum of 10+ years engineering experience in the chemical process industry
Broad-based knowledge of ammonia, urea, and ancillary plant operations and processes
Strong and proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite and Engineering software
Effective informal leadership, verbal and written communication, and interpersonal communication skills with a variety of stakeholders including front line employees, management and contractor organizations
Ability to organize and prioritize multiple projects and makes adjustment quickly as needed
Ability to deal effectively with people and resolve conflicts and problems
Ability to analyze technical and cost information and provide conclusions and recommendations
Ability to accept direction and work effectively & cooperatively with other people
Must be goal orientated, self-motivated and able to work independently
Must have strong analytical and troubleshooting skills
Overtime may be required and is anticipated
Must be willing to occasionally work extended hours, weekends, holidays and respond to call outs as required
