Switchboard Operator

As a Switchboard Operator, you will operate the hospital telephone and nurse-call systems and monitor emergency panels in accordance with policies and procedures. You will be responsible for receiving incoming calls and responding appropriately, making necessary hospital announcements and performing a variety of general administrative duties. In addition, you will be a key point of contact responding to a broad range of inquiries from the general public, patients, staff, visitors and physicians.

Required Qualifications:
Completion of Grader 12 or equivalent.

Additional Required Qualifications:
Recognized education equivalent required. Accurate typing speed of 40 wpm required and testing done prior to interview. Strong computer skills including proficiency with Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, Outlook) required. Minimum six (6) months recent switchboard experience in a large institution required. Demonstrated proficiency in the English language, both written and oral required. Must have excellent communication skills as there is a high degree of interaction with patients and a variety of disciplines at all levels of the organization. Ability to function effectively in a highly dynamic environment, including working under pressure, adapting and responding to changing priorities and meeting deadlines. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Able to work all shifts as operationally required.

Preferred Qualifications:
Medical Terminology - certificate preferred. Recent experience in a hospital environment is preferred. Recent customer service experience preferred.
