EverGen Infrastructure Corp. is seeking a motivated Facilities Engineer to lead and support smaller capital projects and site optimization initiatives at our existing renewable natural gas, anaerobic digestion, and composting facilities across Canada. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys hands-on, practical engineering work—improving the performance, reliability, and efficiency of operating assets—while also gaining exposure to larger infrastructure development projects as opportunities arise.
The Position
The Facilities Engineer will work directly under the Director of Projects and Engineering and closely with EverGen’s operations teams, internal project team, consultants, contractors, vendors, and regulators to scope, design, and deliver site improvements, equipment upgrades, debottlenecking, and optimization work at operating facilities, while supporting larger projects from planning through engineering, construction, commissioning, and operations handover.
Ideal Candidate
The successful candidate will be highly organized, technically curious, detail-oriented, and motivated to improve the day-to-day performance of facilities that support the circular economy, waste diversion, and low-carbon energy production. Candidates with P. Eng., status, along with a minimum of 1 to 3 years’ experience as a professional engineer are preferred.
Responsibilities
- Lead and support smaller capital projects, site improvements, equipment upgrades, and optimization initiatives at existing renewable natural gas, anaerobic digestion, and composting facilities.
- Identify and evaluate opportunities to improve throughput, uptime, energy efficiency, and reliability at operating sites, including debottlenecking and process optimization.
- Coordinate project work across engineering, procurement, permitting, construction, commissioning, and operations teams, with hands-on involvement at the facility level.
- Prepare and maintain project schedules, budgets, trackers, meeting minutes, action logs, risk registers, and progress reports.
- Coordinate with engineering consultants, contractors, vendors, utilities, facility operators, and internal stakeholders to deliver project scopes safely and on schedule.
- Review and prepare technical documents, drawings, specifications, reports, proposals, and vendor submissions.
- Develop scopes of work for site improvements and capital projects, and support procurement activities, including reviewing proposals, coordinating vendor communications, and supporting contract administration.
- Support permitting and regulatory processes, including the preparation, organization, and submission of permit applications and supporting documentation.
- Track project costs, commitments, change orders, invoices, and budget updates in collaboration with the finance and project teams.
- Conduct site visits, walkdowns, construction meetings, and project reviews, documenting key issues, action items, and follow-up requirements.
- Provide construction and field oversight, coordinating with site teams, operators, contractors, and consultants to resolve technical and logistical issues.
- Identify project risks, delays, cost impacts, and technical challenges, and develop practical mitigation strategies.
- Support commissioning, start-up, and handover of new, upgraded, or optimized facility assets back to operations.
- Maintain organized project files, documentation, correspondence, and records, and contribute to continuous improvement of EverGen’s project management systems, templates, and processes.
- Ensure work is carried out in alignment with applicable health, safety, environmental, regulatory, and company requirements.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, preferably mechanical, chemical, biological, environmental, or a related discipline.
- Registered or eligible Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in good standing, with 1–4 years of professional engineering experience in engineering, construction, project coordination, infrastructure development, renewable energy, waste management, utilities, or a related field.
- Ability to take engineering ownership of project deliverables and apply professional judgment consistent with P.Eng. responsibilities.
- Interest in operating facilities, plant optimization, and renewable natural gas, anaerobic digestion, composting, organics processing, clean fuels, or waste diversion.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks, deadlines, and priorities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with internal teams, consultants, contractors, vendors, regulators, and facility operators.
- Strong attention to detail and a practical, solutions-oriented approach to problem solving.
- Understanding of project management principles, including scheduling, budgeting, risk tracking, and document control, with the ability to independently manage smaller projects.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Experience with project management software, AutoCAD, Bluebeam, MS Project, Smartsheet, or similar tools is considered an asset.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, technical reports, schedules, and specifications is considered an asset.
- Willingness to travel periodically to project sites and operating facilities as required.
Preferred Experience
- Experience supporting construction or infrastructure projects.
- Exposure to renewable energy, biogas, RNG, composting, agriculture, wastewater, utilities, or industrial facilities.
- Experience working with consultants, contractors, vendors, or permitting authorities.
- Familiarity with environmental permitting, municipal approvals, utility interconnections, or regulatory compliance.
- Experience preparing technical summaries, project reports, scopes of work, or procurement documents.
