Overview
We are seeking a Health & Safety Coordinator to support and lead health and safety initiatives across our construction projects and office operations. The successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining compliance with Ontario OHSA, COR 2020, and ISO 45001:2018, while promoting a proactive and positive safety culture.
This role involves a combination of field-based work on active construction sites and office-based administrative responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Walk through work areas to spot risks.
- Check safety gear and fire tools.
- Fix unsafe acts or conditions right away.
- Run safety talks and new worker orientations.
- Help with Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC) meetings.
- Teach crews how to use personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Write down safety observations and meeting notes.
- Track injury logs and training records.
- Help investigate near-misses and accidents.
- Keep safety manuals and data sheets up to date.
- Make sure daily work matches company and legal standards
- Lead and participate in workplace audits, inspections, and investigations related to safety concerns, incidents, and accidents
- Identify hazards and ensure equipment, materials, and work practices do not pose health or safety risks
- Develop, implement, and maintain health and safety programs, policies, procedures, and training initiatives
- Support and maintain compliance with COR 2020 and ISO 45001:2018 standards
- Communicate and collaborate with management, supervisors, and field staff to ensure compliance with health and safety legislation
- Organize and assist with safety meetings, toolbox talks, and ongoing compliance monitoring
- Collect safety statistics and assist with tracking, reporting, and trend analysis
- Maintain and organize safety documentation, inspection records, and spreadsheets
- Conduct regular site visits to active construction projects, ensuring safe work practices are being enforced
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, with a strong emphasis on ExcelWork Environment & Requirements
- Work locations include office settings and active construction sites
- CSA-approved safety boots required
- Hard hat and safety vest provided by the company
- Must have a Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to job sites
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail
- Ability to demonstrate assertiveness when required to enforce safety standards
- Self-starter with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines
- Comfortable working independently and in a team environment
- Experience in construction or civil infrastructure safety is considered an asset
