Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Pipelayer to join our Penticton team. The successful candidate will have strong experience in civil construction and municipal underground utilities, with the ability to safely and efficiently complete pipe installation while working collaboratively with supervisors, equipment operators, and labour crews.
The Pipelayer will be responsible for the installation of underground utility systems, including water, sanitary sewer, storm sewer, and drainage infrastructure, while maintaining high standards for safety, quality, and productivity.
This position will support projects throughout the Okanagan Valley, including Penticton and surrounding communities. Willingness to work out of town on regional projects, including projects such as Princeton, is considered an asset.
Key Responsibilities
- Install underground water, sanitary sewer, storm sewer, and drainage systems according to project specifications.
- Read and interpret construction drawings, plans, grades, and specifications.
- Perform pipe installation with a focus on accuracy, quality, and production requirements.
- Prepare trenches and pipe bedding to meet required elevations and specifications.
- Verify grades and elevations during installation.
- Safely work around existing underground utilities, including gas, hydro, communication, water, and sewer infrastructure.
- Install manholes, catch basins, services, and related underground infrastructure.
- Complete pipe connections, joint sealing, bedding, compaction, and backfilling activities.
- Coordinate effectively with equipment operators, labourers, and supervisors to maintain project schedules.
- Complete daily site assessments and identify potential hazards.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
- Provide guidance and support to crew members as required.
Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum 5 years of experience in pipe laying and civil construction preferred.
- Strong understanding of municipal underground utility installation, including water, sanitary sewer, storm sewer, and drainage systems.
- Ability to read and interpret drawings, grades, and specifications.
- Strong knowledge of pipe installation, grade checking, bedding, compaction, and backfill requirements.
- Experience leading or directing pipelaying activities is considered an asset.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation to and from work.
- Proven safety record and commitment to safe work practices.
- Reliable, punctual, and hardworking.
- Ability and willingness to work extended hours when required.
- Willingness to work out of town on regional projects is considered an asset.
