Position Overview
This position is responsible for the direct supervision of processing and testing of specimens, maintenance of equipment, inventories of supplies and oversees the lab, plans, organizes and coordinates staffing schedules. As well, short and long term planning, identification of resources for new and expanded programs, changes in laboratory programs, testing requirements and space planning. They may be required to perform ‘hands on’ testing.
Basic Requirements
  • Current registration with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario (CMLTO) in the appropriate field of practice and/or a Bachelor or Masters Degree of Life Sciences;
  • 7 years of clinical experience in a related discipline with at least 3 years in a prior supervisory role (combination of clinical/supervisory experience may be considered);
  • Specific coursework or experience in leadership, human resource management, financial management, time management, communication/interaction (including presentations), critical thinking, applied investigation, problem-solving, professionalism, facilitation and conflict resolution;
  • Knowledge of relevant health care regulations;
  • Advanced knowledge in medical laboratory theory, principles and practices;
  • Knowledge of applicable occupational health and safety legislation;
  • Strong oral and writing communication skills;
  • Strong interpersonal skills;
  • Sound problem solving and conflict resolution skills;
  • Detailed knowledge of laboratory testing procedures;
  • Ability to supervise/lead/coach/mentor;
  • Knowledge of computer / IT relevant to the laboratory;
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of laboratory operations.
As a pre-condition of employment, all new EORLA employees will be required to obtain and provide a satisfactory Criminal Records Check dated within six (6) months from the date of issue.

Preferred Qualifications
  • CCC-PA certification;
  • Pathologist Assistant Master's Degree.
