The SickKids Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) offers tertiary and quaternary medical and surgical care for newborns up to four weeks old. Admitting patients from the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), across Canada, and globally, our NICU cares for the most complex and fragile neonates in the province. The first six months of each NICU orientation includes a mix of:

Classroom education

Buddy shifts
-
Clinical instructor support

Preceptorship

Develop and implement a nursing plan of care

Work in collaboration with the NICU families and the interdisciplinary health care team

Gain clinical competence and knowledge base through education in the classroom and in the clinical area

Utilize evidence-based practice as a base in the promotion of professional accountability

Provide safe, competent and ethical nursing care
Here's What You'll Need:
Essential Requirements
-
Graduate of an approved Baccalaureate Nursing Program (BScN).
-
Current registration as an RN with the College of Nurses of Ontario (General Class License) in good standing.

Possess 1 + years of clinical nursing experience in an RN capacity
-

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

Demonstrated ability to use your critical thinking, problem-solving and teamwork abilities

Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the principles of equity, diversity and inclusivity
Preferred Qualifications:

Previous recent employment, clinical placement, and/or externship experience in a Neonatal Intensive Care unit strongly preferred.

Level 2 or Level 3 NICU experience is strongly preferred.
