The Director, Asset Management is a key member of the investment team managing our portfolios, trading fixed income, and interacting regularly with our client servicing group, providing value added solutions that differentiate our firm from others.
Manage and support of our total return fixed income and/or liability-driven investment portfolios including both portfolio management duties and trading for portfolios that include fixed income, derivatives and other related securities.
Regularly reviewing portfolios to ensure compliance with investment policy guidelines, analyzing performance, and creating client communications including written as well as live commentary on markets, performance and strategic outlooks.
Be the primary point of contact for SLC marketing and client relationship groups. Responding to client requests; preparing presentations for current clients; reviewing client reports; collaborating on developing client solutions and delivering market commentary for client publications.
Communicate effectively across the organization to develop and maintain close relationships with other portfolio managers, traders, research analysts, relationship managers, and finance to respond to client requests.
Present, discuss and evaluate investment ideas and recommendations on all sectors of the investment grade fixed income market and other asset classes as needed as a member of a collaborative team.
Collaborate with our credit research team to ensure that their insights are effectively incorporated into our investment strategies and work to improve the efficiency of this process.
Utilize organizational skills to prioritize high value tasks in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a detailed focus on the quality of the deliverables.
Previous fixed income portfolio management experience preferably in the Canadian and/or US fixed income markets. Proficiency in Bloomberg, Aladdin, electronic trading and/or other fixed income technologies would be preferred.
Practical knowledge of the asset classes in which SLC invests (publics, privates, derivatives, mortgages, real estate, etc) and hedging strategies for risks, such as interest rate and foreign exchange risk.
Knowledge of investment processes, governance framework and best practices across various asset class and strategy types. Strong understanding of liability driven investment, asset liability management, asset management and risk management functions and processes, including an understanding of how to align the functions with investment policies and guidelines.
Ability to work independently in an agile work environment to achieve targets and meet deadlines.
Effective written and verbal communication skills. Strong attention to detail and understanding of the need for accuracy.
A collaborative work style and positive attitude.
Knowledge of statistical analysis and modelling, including VaR concepts
Strong desire to stay in the fixed income investment field.
Undergraduate degree in finance, economics or a related discipline.
CFA designation achieved or in progress
On-going commitment to the investments industry evidenced by memberships, affiliations and participation in relevant industry groups
The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
